Hannah Sahr made Shaler indoor track and field history at the TSTCA championships Feb. 17. The junior set a Titans indoor record by finishing the 400 in 1 minute, 1.06 seconds. The previous record stood since 2007.

Sahr placed eighth in the race.

Of the 17 Shaler athletes who qualified for the event, the Titans had several standout performances. Jayla Antomachi qualified for the PTFCA track and championship at Penn State with a fifth-place performance in the shot put.

Liam Kelley finished with a 19-7 leap in the long jump to finish in seventh place.

Swimmers hit cuts

The Titans swim team had several athletes hit their WPIAL Class 3A championship qualifying times at the last-chance meet. Will Nebiolo was able to swim a time of 1:52.48 to qualify for the 200 freestyle.

Braden Bork also earned a spot in the 500 freestyle by swimming 5:09.81.

Best-ever finish

The Shaler boys bowling team showed it could keep up with the top teams in the WPIBL. Competing at AMF Belle Vernon, Shaler finished with a score of 2,755 to take third place and qualify for the Western Regionals.

Franklin Regional won the event with a score of 2,785. Shaler bowler Braden Scott made the all-tournament team by finishing with a 617 series.

Josh Turner, Liam Craegh, Noah Lang, Tyler Woistman, and Braden Scott were scheduled to compete at the WPIBL singles championships Feb. 21.

Girls miss out

The Shaler girls basketball team couldn’t quite get the chips to fall the right way.

The Titans closed the regular season with Section 2-5A wins over Fox Chapel and Hampton, but Shaler missed out on a second consecutive WPIAL playoff bid by finishing one game behind the Talbots for fourth place. Shaler wrapped up the season by going 8-14 overall and 5-7 in section play.
