The final week of the regular season is here for WPIAL boys volleyball teams, and there still are things to be decided in terms of playoff qualifiers.
Some teams have one or two section matches left, while a few others have three.
There are at least five more berths to be had for teams in Class 3A, while there are at least four still up for grabs in Class 2A.
The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its final top-10 polls for the 2024 season Monday morning.
Section 2 champion Mars remained at the top in Class 2A, while Shaler and North Allegheny, who enter this week tied for the lead in their section, were No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the Class 3A rankings.
There wasn’t any movement in the Class 3A top 10. Seneca Valley, which fell to Shaler in a section match Friday, remained at No. 3, followed by Norwin, Penn-Trafford, Butler, Canon-McMillan, Hempfield, Pine-Richland and Central Catholic.
North Catholic was No. 2 behind Mars in Class 2A, with Ambridge, South Fayette, Gateway, Thomas Jefferson, Seton LaSalle, Derry, Latrobe and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in spots three through 10.
The top four teams and ties from each section qualify for the WPIAL playoffs, and the playoff committee is scheduled to meet Friday to put the brackets in place.
The Class 3A and 2A tournaments tentatively are set to begin next Monday.
Every WPIAL boys volleyball coach this season has the opportunity to vote for each week’s top-10 polls.
The players of the week were selected based on submitted coaches’ nominations.
