Sewickley Academy girls basketball gets back to section action

The Sewickley Academy girls basketball team resumes Section 1-1A action Thursday at 7 p.m. at home against Cornell.
The Panthers, 4-2 overall, own a 2-1 record in section play with victories over Vincentian Academy and Quigley Catholic.
The section standings has Rochester in first at 3-0, followed by Eden Christian at 2-0 and Sewickley Academy third at 2-1. The Panthers’ lone loss in section came at the hands of Rochester on Dec. 17.
QV wrestling tops South Side
The Quaker Valley wrestling team scored a 47-27 victory over South Side in Class AA, Section 2B action Wednesday evening.
The Quakers improved to 3-0 in section with the win.
Mason Diemert (160) and Brad Fadeley (285) each recorded wins by fall, and Justin Ritchey (120) scored a technical fall.
Archer Eubanks (106), John Rafla (126), Conner Sinewe (145), Patrick Cutchember (170) and Michael Aspiotes (182) added forfeit victories.
Swim teams hope to add qualifying marks
The Quaker Valley/Sewickley Academy combined swim teams will take on Montour on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Montour High School.
Swimmers will attempt to achieve top times against the Spartans and also add WPIAL qualifying marks.
QV freshman Isabel Huang owns the top time in the WPIAL Class AA girls 100-yard backstroke at 1:00.51.
She’s also qualified for WPIALs in the 100 butterfly (1:05.28). She achieved both marks in a meet against Beaver Area on Dec. 20.
