Roll out the green carpet: football season is near.

A number of WPIAL stadiums are in the process of getting new artificial turf. Most schools change turf after 10 or 15 years and several were due for updated playing surfaces.

Westmoreland County, in particular, has ongoing turf projects at Penn-Trafford, Norwin, Franklin Regional, Greensburg Salem and Jeannette, the last of which is installing turf for the first time at McKee Stadium.

Jeannette’s field was all dirt this week but the project is moving along.

Many schools have set an early August deadline for completion of the work.

Penn-Trafford has added sleek gold lettering at Warrior Stadium in Harrison City.

Norwin is scheduled to install turf next week, while Greensburg Salem’s Offutt Field also is awaiting new carpet.
