Seton LaSalle senior shortstop/outfielder Lexi Wagner was named the state’s Gatorade Softball Player of the Year on Monday.
The Oregon recruit batted .680 with 14 home runs and 39 RBIs for the Rebels, who finished 15-3 and reached the WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinals. It’s the second year in a row that a WPIAL player received the honor. Former Hempfield star Morgan Ryan won last year.
The award recognizes athletic accomplishments as well as “high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.” Gatorade will award a $1,000 grant to a local or national youth sports organization of Wagner’s choice.
Congrats to Lexi Wagner, '18, the 2017-18
