Valley’s Kevin Thrower eludes a pair of Greensburg Salem tacklers on Oct. 11, 1974 as the Vikings won a key Foothills Conference game, 34-6. Kevin, nephew of New Kensington’s legendary Willie Thrower, was first team all-state that season for both the AP and the UPI.

Latrobe finally ends scoreless skid, shuts out Armstrong in Big East win

Scoreless for nearly 7 1/2 quarters, Latrobe finally found the end zone. It was a good thing: The Wildcats were growing tired of these three-and-out defensive struggles.

Freeport coach Don Earley collected his 100th coaching victory on Sept. 20, 1974 as the Yellowjackets won at Mars, 20-13. Earley would go on to win 100 more games before retiring in 1985.
