The real winner on the fourth Saturday of the WPIAL football season was Mother Nature. For the first time in this 2013, she played a key role in the three games that were played Saturday afternoon with a steady, drenching rain. Even though the skies were cloudy all day, these three players helped shed some light on their teams wild and wet victories.

Hunter Roknich – Western Beaver

On a dark, wet and gloomy Homecoming 2013 at Western Beaver High School, it was only appropriate that junior Hunter Roknich would shine bright. Last year, he spent most of the season on the sidelines with concussion issues, however this year he has bounced back nicely, including 186 yards on a wet and slick surface, plus a pair of touchdowns in the Golden Beavers 20-0 whitewash of the Union Scotties in a key Class A Big 7 Conference tilt.

Colby Kincell – Mapletown

Perhaps there is some irony in saluting a Mapletown football player whose team logo is a falling leaf, on this the first day of Autumn 2013….perhaps.  Colby Kincell ensured the final day of the Summer of 2013 was a good one for him and his mates and he gained 119 yards and scored a touchdown as the Maples cruised to a 36-14 Class A Tri-County South Conference victory over the host Geibel Gators.

Montay Clancy – Wilkinsburg

You can almost hear the legendary voice of NFL Films star John Facenda describe the conditions of the Class A Eastern Conference contest between Northgate and Wilkinsburg "with a back drop of Niagara like rains falling on the hallow sod of historic Graham Field in Wilkinsburg."  Junior Montay Clancy provided all of the offense needed in the first half when he registered a first quarter safety, then scored on a six yard run in the second quarter and ended up with 78 soggy yards on the day to lead the host Tigers to a 16-0 dousing of the Flames.
