Plum girls finish 3rd at state team bowling championships

The Plum girls came away with a third-place finish to lead the WPIBL contingent at the Pennsylvania High School Bowling team championships Saturday in Lancaster.

Mareana Pilyih led the way in qualifying for the Mustangs with a 238 game and a 628 series. Plum, seeded second after qualifying, lost to eventual champion Governor Mifflin in the semifinals, 2-1.

Governor Mifflin defeated Shikellamy, 2-0, in the championship match.

Freeport finished eighth in qualifying. The top four teams reached the step-ladder finals.

Gateway was the only WPIBL team to reach the finals in the boys competition, qualifying fourth. The Gators lost to Neshaminy in the quarterfinals, 2-0, to finish fourth.

Plum was sixth, Greensburg Salem ninth and Franklin Regional 10th in qualifying.

Greensburg Salem’s Dylan Megliarino, with a 624 series in qualifying, and Gateway’s Allon Wallace Jr., with a 614, made the all-tournament team.

Elizabethtown beat Middletown, 2-1, in the championship match.
