PIAA Girls Tennis : Ananya Dua Repeats in Singles While Fox Chaple Duo Wins Doubles

The PIAA Class AAA Girls Tennis Singles and Doubles finals turned into a WPIAL love-fest as district players met each other in both title matches Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Ananya Dua of Shady Side Academy made history by repeating as PIAA AAA Singles champion by beating Anna Li of North Allegheny 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Dua is only the third WPIAL tennis player to win back-to-back state AAA singles crowns following Michaela Kissell of Latrobe (three consecutive from 2003-05) and Mount Lebanon’s Kelly Kolankiewicz (1982-83).

Li beat Charlotte Madson of Upper St. Clair in the Semifinals as three district players made up the Final Four. Madson won the consolation match 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Payton Bradley on Downingtown West.

In the Class AAA doubles finals, WPIAL champions Laurel Shymansky and Amanda Nord of Fox Chapel added state gold by beating Tina Li and Ashley Huang of North Allegheny in a rematch of the district finals 6-4, 6-2.

The news was not as golden in Class AA where only one WPIAL tennis player reached the Semifinals as Hannah Phillips of Carlynton lost to Lin Robertson of Berks Catholic 6-4, 6-3. Phillips then fell to Maja Andersson of Northern Lebanon in the consolation match 6-2, 6-2. Elene Tsokilauri of Delaware County Christian won the AA title with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Robertson.

No WPIAL duo’s reached the Semifinals in the Class AA playoffs that were won by the duo of Coco Chen and Logan Lencheski of Notre Dame-Green Pond as they beat Grace Zechman and Amy Shields of Lancaster Country Day 6-2, 6-0.
