PIAA boys tennis roundup for May 17, 2019: Fox Chapel, Indiana advance to semifinals

Robby Shymansky and Jared Nord earned singles wins in straight sets, and Milo Baron pulled out a three-set thriller to help WPIAL champion Fox Chapel defeat District 1’s Conestoga, 4-1, in the PIAA Class AAA boys tennis quarterfinals Friday in Hershey.

Jay Kashyap and Brandon Wei also won in two sets at first doubles for the Foxes, who will play either Dallastown or Great Valley in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

With a victory, they will play for the state title at 5:30 p.m.

Unionville 4, Shady Side Academy 1 — Russell Erb and Alex Reuter won their match at first doubles, but WPIAL runner-up Shady Side Academy dropped its PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal match to District 1 champion Unionville.

Class AA

Indiana 4, Wyoming Seminary 1 — Zachary Palko, Joey Bojdos and Evan Ray swept their singles matches in straight sets to lift WPIAL champion Indiana to a PIAA Class AA quarterfinal victory.

Sammy Szep and Cormac Pagnucci won at first doubles for the Little Indians.

Indiana will play Pequea Valley in the semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Lancaster Country Day 3, South Park 2 — Dylan Weiss won at third singles, and Ryan Scandral and Alex Duing won at second doubles, but South Park fell in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals at Hershey Racquet Club.

Pequea Valley 3, Quaker Valley 1 — Potter Oliver and Thomas Pangburn won at second doubles, but the Quakers fell short in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals.
