Penn-Trafford has found a replacement for Albert Gallatin on its 2019 football schedule.

The Warriors will be headed to Massillon, Ohio to play the nationally-renowned Washington Tigers on Sept. 20. The Tigers were state runners-up in Division II last season, falling to Akron Hoban, 42-28.

Penn-Trafford athletic director Kerry Hetrick said final details were completed Tuesday. Albert Gallatin decided not to play a WPIAL schedule next season, forcing Big East Conference teams to find an opponent to fill the hole in the schedule.

The game will be played at historic Paul Brown Stadium, which will celebrate its 80-year anniversary next fall.

“They have great tradition, and I feel it will be great experience for our players,” Penn-Trafford coach John Ruane said. “We’re excited about the opportunity.”

Penn-Trafford (9-3) finished second in the Class 5A Big East Conference last season. The Warriors lost to Peters Township in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

Former Seneca Valley and Waynesburg College coach Rick Shepas coached seven seasons at Massillon and compiled a 52-27 record (1998-2004).

Massillon (14-1) defeated Sun Valley from eastern Pennsylvania, 101-6, in 2018.

The Tigers have won 24 state championships and nine national championships.

The program has a 842-273-36 overall record.
