If all goes according to plan, Penn-Trafford could have artificial turf infields on its baseball and softball diamonds in the near future.
The move could happen if the fields pass a test.
At Monday’s board meeting, plans to have turf installed were tabled so an engineering study can ascertain if the fields’ drainage situation is suitable to begin a turf project.
“We want to make sure it’s done right,” Penn-Trafford athletic director Kerry Hetrick said. “We’ll have the study done and make sure everything is in good shape before be move forward.”
Results of the study will be presented to the board at a future meeting before a vote takes place.
In related news, new turf will be installed at Warrior Stadium this summer.
Norwin and Franklin Regional will follow suit, while Greensburg Salem is considering replacing the carpet at Offutt Field. Jeannette for the first time will install turf at venerable McKee Stadium.
