Patrick Weber steps into athletic director role at North Hills

North Hills School District has a new leader in the athletic department, after the school board tabbed high school Assistant Principal Patrick Weber to the position of athletic director, active July 1.

Weber replaced Amy Scheuneman, who served as North Hills athletic director since 2016. She has moved into a position with the WPIAL as an associate executive director.

Weber said the appointment represents an opportunity to continue the success his predecessors started while also capitalizing on the chance to be a hands-on presence with Indians’ student-athletes.

“Obviously, the athletic directors that have been here before, especially Amy, have done great things for the programs and have hired some quality coaches,” Weber said.

“For myself, coming from an educational administration background and working with students, I’m looking forward to working with them and relating with them as much as possible. We want to build them up on the court and off the court, as student-athletes. I’m looking to continue what Amy has started to build and to cultivate working relationships with our students.”

Weber has been a high school assistant principal since 2015. Before that he was a physical education and health teacher at Highcliff Elementary and a physical education and health teacher at Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway, N.J., where he coached football and lacrosse. Weber was a center and long snapper on the Penn State football team between 2003-07.

These experiences have imbued Weber with a unique perspective on student-athlete life, a perspective he said will inform his priorities and outlook in his new role.

“That’s where my passion comes from, my background in high school as a three-sport athlete, then moving on to play Division I college football at Penn State. A lot of the coaches and teachers that I had along the way made me understand the importance of academics and athletics,” Weber said

“I’ve seen a direct correlation, in my life, to a lot of the things that we teach student-athletes: time management, perseverance, teamwork, being a good teammate and communication. I was able to see how those skills translate to life firsthand, so it’s a way for me to give those lessons back to the next generation and pay it forward.”

Weber earned his undergraduate degree and teacher certification from Penn State. He has a master’s degree in educational leadership and principal certification from Cal (Pa.).
