On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon in Belle Vernon, the Leopards softball team was dominant in an 8-0 Section 2-4A victory over South Fayette, 8-0, at Tom Rodriguez Field.
As she has been all season, pitcher Bailey Parshall was in control, fanning nine of the first 10 batters she faced.
Meanwhile, the Leopards exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning off Lions' starter and losing pitcher Mara Iagnemma. Belle Vernon sent 10 batters to the plate.
Parshall did not allow a base runner until the top of the fourth when she gave up an infield single to Iagnemma. She allowed only four base runners for the game and only two hits.
The Leopards got two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Sophia Godzak drove an Iagnemma pitch over the left-center field fence to make it an 8-0 game.
Parshall struck out 16 batters and increased her season total to 172.
The No. 3-ranked Leopards (11-2, 7-2) moved one step closer to the WPIAL Class 4A postseason. They host Carrick in another Section 2 game Wednesday afternoon.
