A year ago, the streak of WPIAL teams winning at least one PIAA girls basketball championship hit six years in a row.
In fact, in this century, District 7 girls basketball teams have only failed twice to win a state championship.
It last happened in 2017 when three WPIAL teams reached Hershey, but lost in the first year of six classifications.
It also happened in 2008 when two District 7 teams fell in the PIAA championship game.
Keeping the streak alive last year was Blackhawk, which was the WPIAL Class 4A runner-up in 2024 as the Cougars are this season.
With 36 WPIAL teams participating, will the district streak of state champions continue this winter?
Here is the schedule for western side of the bracket in the opening round of the 2025 PIAA girls basketball postseason.
