Our Lady of the Sacred Heart girls volleyball rallied from one set down to defeat Bishop Canevin on the road, 3-1, in a nonsection game featuring two ranked teams Wednesday night.
“We gave the girls the option to play them,” OLSH coach Michael McDonald said. “We didn’t have to play them because they’re nonsection. And they wanted to play them. And, it ended up being a good match, and we got some good things out of the game.”
The Class 2A No. 4 Chargers blew a 24-20 lead in the first set as the Crusaders got late kills from hitters Alexa Malloy and Kylie Airesman.
But OLSH fought back and overcame a late game deficit in the second set. Trailing 24-21, the Charters went on a 5-0 run to win Game 2, 26-24. OLSH junior outside hitter Gianna Platt registered three of her team-high 12 kills late in set 2 to even the match.
OLSH once again rallied from a late-set deficit in Game 3, falling behind 20-16. But the Charters then scored nine of the final 12 points to win the set, 25-23. Maddie Hoff had four of her nine kills and registered three aces to lead the Chargers to a 2-1 advantage.
OLSH (9-2) dominated the forth and decisive game, winning 25-19. OLSH’s Katie Tarasovich had nine kills while Ashley Norling chipped in with seven.
Bishop Canevin (11-4), which came into the week as the top-ranked team in Class A, was led by Malloy (14 kills) and Airesman (13 kills). Airesman also added six aces.
