Lexi Gray took a sharp turn on the road to college athletics, changing sports and schools along the way. She could not be happier with her new-found decision.

Gray, a senior at Norwin, had planned to play soccer at Lourdes, a NAIA school in Sylvania, Ohio. She committed before the high school season. But hopes for a college track and field career still flickered on the back burner and something told her to give that inclination another look.

Bucknell helped by making her an offer, which she accepted. Now, she is headed for a Division I program.

She’ll compete in jumps.

“It was a very hard decision to quit soccer for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and decommit from Lourdes, but I always dreamed of going to Bucknell,” she said. “When I received an offer I knew I had to take this amazing opportunity. It is an amazing school academically and has a very competitive track team. The track facilities are incredible and the campus is beautiful.”

Gray started hearing from schools after last year’s PIAA meet, where she placed third in the triple jump (33 feet, 11 3/4 inches). She also had offers for track and field from St. Francis and Robert Morris.

“I did have hopes of running D-1 track,” Gray said. “But didn’t think it could become a reality until my success last year.”
