North Allegheny, Derry lead WPIAL boys volleyball rankings

The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its Week 2 boys rankings Monday, and North Allegheny remains at the top in Class AAA.

In Class AA, there is a new No. 1 as Derry moves up from No. 3.

Each set of rankings is compiled through a vote of the WPIAL’s 39 head coaches.

Norwin stays at No. 2 in Class AAA, followed by Bethel Park, Shaler and Latrobe.

Penn-Trafford checks in at No. 6, Seneca Valley is No. 7, Hempfield is No. 8, Pine-Richland is No. 9, and Butler is No. 10.

Others receiving votes this week are Peters Township, Canon McMillan and Armstrong.

Seton LaSalle is No. 2 in Class AA, with Ambridge at No. 3, OLSH at No. 4 and Bishop Canevin at No. 5.

Rounding out the top 10, in order of ranking, are Beaver County Christian, Obama Academy, North Catholic, Deer Lakes and Thomas Jefferson.

Other Class AA squads earning votes are Montour and Mars.

Players of the Week for Class AAA and AA also were selected.

For Class AAA, the honors go to Peters Township senior right-side hitter Alex Puhl, Shaler junior outside hitter Billy Dadowski and Penn-Trafford senior middle hitter Jake Tappe.

Recognized in Class AA are Beaver County Christian junior outside hitter Zac Barbato, Obama Academy senior setter David Graham and North Catholic senior middle hitter Jake Swidorsky.
