North Allegheny and Deer Lakes Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Titles

For one school, it was just another gold trophy to add to their recent run, for another, it's a title that has been a long time coming. North Allegheny beat section rival Seneca Valley in four games to capture a fifth consecutive WPIAL boys volleyball title by winning the Class AAA championship Friday evening at Chartiers Valley High School. Meanwhile, Deer Lakes edged Montour in a five-set battle to win the Class AA title, the Lancers third WPIAL championship, but first since 1979. Here are all of the final results from the 2011 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Playoffs.

2011 WPIAL CLASS AAA CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:

North Allegheny Tigers 3 – Seneca Valley Raiders 1 (MSA)
(31-29, 25-23, 25-21)
North Allegheny captured its fifth consecutive WPIAL Class AAA boys volleyball championship with a 3-1 victory over Section 2 rival Seneca Valley Friday night at Chartiers Valley. Seneca Valley took the first set, 26-24, but the top-seeded Tigers then won the next three, 31-29, 25-23, and 25-21. The set scores were tied on 46 occasions, including 20 times in the second set. WPIAL Class AAA MVP Seth Johnson led North Allegheny with 17 kills. Zach Shaw added nine kills and two aces. Brian Pudlo collected 17 kills in a losing effort. First team All-WPIAL selection Zach Herrmann chipped in with 14 kills for the Raiders. Both teams advance to the PIAA tournament beginning on Tuesday.

Deer Lakes Lancers 3 – Montour Spartans 2 (MSA)
(22-25, 25-11, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10)
At Chartiers Valley High School the Deer Lakes Lancers won the WPIAL Boys AA Volleyball championship over the Montour Spartans by a score of 3 games to 2 in a very entertaining match. In the first game Montour jumped out to an early lead led by SR Austin Heter.The 6-5 SR was a force at the net and helped the Spartans to an early 2-1 lead. The Lancers came back to tie at 2-2 and would lead until Montour would tie at 11-11. Deer lakes had inspired play on the front line from setter Charlie Tindall, and Sr Jeremy Gaston. despite the Lancer comeback Montour would jump out to a 16-12 lead
