Brookville native and Pittsburgh resident Nathan Smith received an exemption into the 43rd U.S Mid-Amateur.

The tournament is Sept. 21-26 at Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va., and Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.

The five-time USGA champion and 2025 USA Walker Cup captain is the only player to win four U.S. Mid-Amateur titles (2003, 2009, 2010 and 2012). He also won the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball with Todd White in 2015.

The Walker Cup will be held at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. He played in the 2009, 2011 and 2013 Walker Cups.

Smith became the 15th player to win the same USGA championship at least four times.

Smith along with Sean Knapp and Mike Van Sickle led Pennsylvania to a states team title in 2009.

Smith was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Golf and Allegheny College halls of fame.

He and Knapp have been the top amateur golfers over the years in Western Pennsylvania Golf Association tournaments.
