Mt. Lebanon celebrated five seniors on Wednesday and continued bringing joy to them and the fans, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 13-0 victory over Section 1-6A foe Allderdice.

Mt. Lebanon’s first inning came in response to a top of the inning threat by the Allderdice. The first three Allderdice batters all reached, and the Blue Devils managed to escape a bases-loaded jam early behind sophomore pitcher Jenna Gorecki.

In the bottom half of the inning, junior Madeline Ritenour singled, which started a stretch of eight consecutive batters reaching base for the Blue Devils. Mt. Lebanon strung together four hits in the inning, took advantage of three Allderdice errors and brought 11 to the plate, five of whom drove in runs to take the early 8-0 lead.

Mt. Lebanon then added to its tally in the bottom of the second behind RBI hits from seniors Madison Miller and Kate Barone to take an 11-0 lead after two innings. Miller led the team with three RBIs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mt. Lebanon added two insurance runs to its make it a 13-0 lead behind a two-run single by senior Paige Sneddon. Gorecki then cruised in the top of the fifth, setting the Dragons down in order to give the Blue Devils the victory.

Mt. Lebanon moved to 5-9 overall and 4-9 in section play with the win. Despite not being in playoff contention, Blue Devils coach Casey Phillips is happy with how the team has progressed this season.

“I think the program is right where we thought it would be,” he said.

“This year, despite the five total seniors we have, only three really saw playing time last year. We knew we were going to be a young team this year, and we really leaned on those five seniors to remind the younger group that when times are tough to keep doing what they are capable of doing.”

Mt. Lebanon returns to action Friday in its final section matchup versus Upper St. Clair. The game originally scheduled for 7 p.m. has been moved up an hour.

Allderdice (0-12) will face Brashear on Friday to close out the regular season.
