MSA Sports Top Ten – WPIAL Football Playoff Rankings – 10/28/2012

OK, let’s clear the air on what the WPIAL Football steering committee will do on Monday. They will NOT rank the teams, they will seed them. Big Difference. They attempt to determine the top 2, then the top 4 and then the top 8 teams in each classification.

However in football, sometimes their hands are tied based on home field advantage for the top 8 seeds. For example, you could make the argument that Neshannock is the fourth best team in Class A. But you can’t seed the Lancers in the top eight because they are on the road with an 8-1 record after tie-breaker points and head-to-head gave the top two spots in the Class A Big 7 Conference to Sto-Rox and Rochester.

So sometimes the committee has to be creative. Again, it is NOT a straight 1 through 16 rank.

You can find out how the brackets turned out Monday night with the UPMC Sports Medicine WPIAL Football Playoff Pairings Show from 7pm to 9pm here on the MSA Sports Network.

Remember, the First Round matchups work this way:
