MSA Sports Hometown Girls Volleyball Program – Blackhawk

We here at Blackhawk are looking forward to another year of competitive volleyball. Our varsity team  is a combination of Seniors, Juniors, Sophmores and Freshmen. We are fortunate to have a group of academically gifted students; many of our players are high honor and honor roll students.  Many are members of the  National Honor Society and our team GPA was 3.85 last season.

Brittany Davids- Senior Captain.  Setter- 3 year letter winner.  Brittany is a high honors student and  has played two years of club volleyball with advanced approach and is looking forward to continuing her volleyball career at a 4 year college.  Brittany will be running the offense this season,  she is an awesome defensive player and her serving has been very beneficial to our team!

Leah Hornfeck- Senior Captain. DS/Libero- 3 year letter winner.  Leah is a high honors student and  has played two year club volleyball with advanced approach, is also a  lacrosse player and is also looking forward to continuing her education at a 4 year college.  Leah’s defensive skills have helped us over the past two years to be playoff contenders.  Her leadership on the court and off has really helped our team unity.   She is a high energy player.

Kristen Ostach-Senior Captain. MH/MB, – 3 year letter winner.  Kristen is a high honors student and  her volleyball awards include; All section first team selection soph. & junior years, All WPIAL team sophomore & junior year, 4 years club volleyball,  Mizuno Renaissance Pittsburgh, National Junior Olympic player Reno, NV.   Kristen was injured during the past Junior Olympic season and we are awaiting her return.  She has been a major contributor to Blackhawks success over the past two years.  Kristen has been working hard to return .  Despite her injuries , Kristen remains a leader to her teammates through her spirit and heart. Kristen is planning to continue her volleyball career at a 4 year college.

Haley Schramm- Junior Captain. MH/MB-  3 year letter winner.  Haley is a high honors student and has played club volleyball with Mizuno Renaissance Pittsburgh the past two years.  She is an All Section  and All Wpial Team Award Winner.  Haley’s court presence and leadership have been exceptional.  Haley is always trying to help the younger players succeed.  She is very dedicated and works very hard.  Her motivation carries over onto her teammates.  Haley is planning to continue  her volleyball career at a 4 year college.
 
Makenna Malinowski- Junior DS/OH/S- 2 year letter winner. Two year club player at Mizuno Renaissance  Makenna is an all around player and has  filled many voids on our team.  She is an amazing defensive player and all around athlete.  We look forward to seeing her performance this season.

Other players to watch are:
Juniors;  Hannah Pringle- OH, Hannah Schaly- DS,  Allie Menges-OH,  Brianna Camp- DS,  MaryKate Signore- S/OH, Jessica Cruise- DS and Celina Souders-DS.
Sophmores:  Nikki Beatty- MH/OH,  Brooke Tomasko- OH/MH, and Tiye Boyd-OH/DS
Freshman: Stephanie Schramm- OH/DS, Natalie Moyer-S/OH

Our team has been playoff contenders for the past 5 years.  Last year we made it to the WPIAL semi-finals.  We graduated 4 seniors, 3 of which are playing at the college level.

This season we have a lot of young talent .   Our Senior leadership has been wonderful in assisting these young players .  I look forward to watching this team grow as a unit, they are all so talented on the court and in the classroom.
