MSA SPORTS CUP RESULTS – NA Remains Perfect in Quad-A

Another school year is in the books and another MSA Sports Cup in Class AAAA is headed to North Allegheny High School. NA captured the schools 13th Cup in 13 years since the MSA Sports Network started this school year long competition to determine the top sports programs in each classification.

There are 20 sports in which schools can earn points in the competition and the Tigers earned points in 18 of them.

While it was not the highest point total or largest margin of victory, North Allegheny still cruised to their final Quad-A Sports Cup as they will move up to 6-A starting this fall. The second place school finished 430 points behind NA.

Over the last couple of years, the only battle in Quad-A has been for second place, and this year, a pair of Westmoreland County neighbors finished deadlocked for second place as both Hempfield High School and Norwin High School scored 365 points each. 45 points behind them was the fourth place school, Seneca Valley, who finished only ten points ahead of fifth place Fox Chapel. Rounding out the Top Ten was Mount Lebanon sixth, Canon-McMillan seventh, Peters Township eighth, Pine-Richland ninth and Upper St. Clair tenth.

North Allegheny enjoyed district championships in boys cross-country and track & field, boys and girls swimming and a district and state championship in girls tennis.

The MSA Sports Cup is a challenge to determine the best sports programs for the entire school year throughout the WPIAL schools in each classification, A, AA,  AAA and AAAA.  Points are earned for the success of each Team sport in the fall, winter and spring seasons.  ONLY sports with at least 30% participation throughout the WPIAL schools are included.
