The Shaler Area indoor track and field team continues to show progress as it moves toward the postseason.

Mayah Charity turned in a personal best in the 200-meter dash last week, finishing in 27.51 seconds. Charity’s time gave her the second-best time in program history.

David Kondraciuk also ran a personal-best in the 200 for Shaler, which wrapped up the regular season Feb. 8, by running a 24.89.

Wrestling takes strides

While the short-handed Titans varsity wrestling team wrapped up its season 0-5, the middle school ranks have been showing some promise.

At the Allegheny County Junior High Championships on Feb. 10, Shaler had six wrestlers finish as placewinners.

Luke Jones (145 pounds) and Zach Hartung (250) finished as champions.

Jacob Cable (122) finished third, Zenneon Cieslak (80) finished fourth and Tray Grazier (115) and Joe Steinmetz (130) finished fifth.

Shaler hockey misses playoffs

The Titans were eliminated from the playoffs following losses to Mars and Plum.

Shaler’s loss to the perennial Penguins Cup contender Planets was especially difficult.

The Titans built a 2-0 first-period lead following goals from Luke Beran and John Fitzgerald. Mars scored the next three goals before Sam Stayduhar evened the game for the Titans.

Shaler (3-13) then was blitzed by Northeast Division-leading Plum, 9-3.

Schaefer makes splash

Shaler graduate Emily Schaefer has played a key role for the Allegheny swim team, which has a 7-0 record in dual meets this season.

Allegheny also won all three invitationals it participated in before the North Coast Athletic Conference championships last week in Granville, Ohio.

Schaefer won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:00.80 during the Gators’ last dual victory, a 188-48 win over Fredonia on Jan. 25 in Meadville.
