Ligonier Valley's Aaron Tutino leaps from a host of Cambria Heights defenders to score a touchdown Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at Ligonier Valley in WPIAL playoff football.
Ligonier Valley football powered its way to another Heritage Conference title and back-to-back District 6 championships, using one big play after another to average 43.6 points per game.
The Rams' top two playmakers were lauded Monday for their accomplishments.
Senior Jackson Daugherty and junior Aaron Tutino were named to the Pennsylvania Sportswriters' Class 2A All-State Team.
Daugherty (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) was selected as an “athlete” for his all-around contributions as a rusher, receiver and passer. He ran for 1,040 yards and 19 touchdowns, grabbed 42 receptions for 876 yards and 10 scores, and threw for 544 yards and nine TDs.
Tutino (5-11, 170) was selected as a receiver after showing he was one of the top pass-catching threats in the state. He had 55 receptions — he had the same total last season — for 1,030 yards and 16 touchdowns.
WPIAL players selected to the 2A all-state team included Nick Welsh and Isaiah Schoonmaker of Washington, T.J. Banks of East Allegheny, and Todd Hill of Steel Valley.
