Laurel Highlands shortstop Sankovich participates in Arizona showcase

Laurel Highlands senior shortstop Travis Sankovich competed with the Langley Blaze, a team from British Columbia, Canada, at their annual Arizona Pro tour spring trip last week.
The team is run by Doug Mathieson, a scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks for all of Canada.
Sankovich played against minor league players from the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals at each team's training site.
The Blaze was comprised of juniors and seniors from Canada and Sankovich, the only player from the United States. Blackhawk's Brendan McKay was the last WPIAL player to participate in the event.
Sankovich played for the Arizona Diamondbacks' scout team at the World Wooden Bat Association Perfect Game championships in Jupiter, Fla.
He played nine innings against the rookie Class A players from each organization. He faced pitchers throwing in the 90s and each game was witnessed by numerous scouts. He also worked out for San Diego Padres scout Dustin Johnson in Peoria, Ariz.
Sankovich is planning to attend Florida Southwestern Junior College in Ft. Myers, Fla. next year.
