Latrobe senior Mira Rolin will be getting in on the ground floor as a member of the Concordia Ann Arbor women's hockey team.

Rolin plans to commit soon to play for the Cardinals in their inaugural season in 2018-19.

“The opportunity to start with a new team and meet new players from all around the country will be exciting,” she said.

Rolin, a forward, led the Steel City Selects 19U team to the USA Hockey Girls Tier II National Championship tournament that is being played April 5-9 at Marlborough, Mass.

At last year's tournament, she was third among goals leaders with six and points leaders with nine, helping the squad to bronze medals.

In 2016, she was on the 16U team that qualified.

She earned a silver medal with Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 14U at the Girls Tier I nationals in 2015.

Concordia, which is in Michigan, plans to play in American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I against NAIA and NCAA teams.

“I had a great connection with the coach, and ACHA DI is the level I wanted to play at,” Rolin said. “I really enjoyed the campus, and there is a lot to do around Ann Arbor.”

Rolin plans to study biology in a pre-dental program.

Steel City Selects 19U coach Bernie Marrese expects Rolin, who was dubbed “Missile” by a former coach because of her skating ability, to thrive as a college competitor.

“She sees the ice,” Marrese said. “She's not playing in (just) her own area.”
