Latrobe football player taken to hospital via helicopter after injury in game at Thomas Jefferson

A Latrobe player was injured during a freshman football game at Thomas Jefferson and transported to the hospital via helicopter Monday night.

The player’s identity and condition were not immediately available.

The injury occured near the end of the game, and the injured player was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital by helicopter, a spokesperson for the West Jefferson Hills School District confirmed late Monday night.

“The West Jefferson Hills School District, including families, students and staff send their thoughts and prayers to the student, his family and the Greater Latrobe school community,” West Jefferson Hills superintendent Janet Sardon said in a statement provided to Tribune-Review news partner WTAE.

The injury occured after three players were taken to the hospital via helicopter during WPIAL varsity football games Friday night.

Laurel Highlands star defensive back Antwan Black Jr. was taken to Allegheny General Hospital after suffering a hit to the head in a game at Kiski Area. Shenango lineman Michael Egetoe was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital after a head injury in a game against Riverside. A Sto-Rox player was transported after suffering a “stinger” during a game against Avonworth.

The coaches of all three teams reported the players were doing better as of Saturday.
