Kiski Area head coach Chris Heater looks at the officials as they determine who won their quarterfinal round match against Nazareth after it ended in a tie at 32 at the PIAA Class AAA team wrestling tournament championship at the Giant Center on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, in Hershey. If past matchups can predict anything, Kiski Area might want to keep its rule book handy for its PIAA Class AAA wrestling quarterfinal match Friday against Nazareth.
Kiski Area (19-1) and District 11 runner-up Nazareth will meet at 2 p.m. Friday in Hershey's Giant Center in a rematch from a 2016 state quarterfinal match that was as close as it gets in team wrestling.
Nazareth won that match, 33-32, prevailing on the little-used ninth tiebreaker criteria: most near-fall points. The loss dropped Kiski Area into the consolation bracket, and the Cavaliers ultimately finished fifth in the state.
The teams didn't meet in the 2017 PIAA tournament, when Nazareth claimed the state title and Kiski Area finished third. Both teams advanced to Friday's quarterfinals with comfortable first-round wins Thursday, with Kiski Area beating Central Dauphin, 47-16, and Nazareth taking down Mifflin County, 47-18.
