It’s officially spring for PIAA baseball, softball, lacrosse and track athletes

It’s officially spring, at least for high school athletes.

Monday, with afternoon temperatures near 40, was the first day across Pennsylvania that spring sports teams were allowed to practice. Despite the chilly air, some teams took advantage of the weather and ventured outdoors.

The WPIAL spring sports are baseball, softball, lacrosse, track and field, boys tennis and boys volleyball.

Teams can scrimmage Saturday.

The first regular-season matches for boys tennis are March 12. The other sports start their schedules March 23.
