Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. Both schools captured a second WPIAL boys lacrosse crown with tight victories Friday night at Chartiers Valley High School and here on the MSA Sports Network. Here are all of the final results from the 2011 WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Playoffs.
Thanks to Sam Hall and Josh Rowntree for their help on the championship matches recaps.
2011 WPIAL DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Mount Lebanon Blue Devils 10 – Sewickley Academy Panthers 8 (MSA)
The Mount Lebanon Blue Devils used a 6-1 run at the outset of the second half to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-5 lead, and then held on down the stretch to defeat the Sewickley Panthers 10-8 in the boys' division one WPIAL lacrosse championship game at Chartiers Valley high school Friday night. Mount Lebanon's Andrew Kuhn scored a pair of first period goals to help stake the Blue Devils to a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period but, the Panthers would button up the defense and get some tremendous play in net from senior keeper Antonio Juliano in the second period. They also got the first of three goals on the night from junior attacker Rob Kendall and a scored from Grant Abraham to take a 4-3 halftime lead. Lebo's second half burst was made all the more impressive by the fact that they were forced to play the entire game without their leading goal-scorer Nathan Relich who got injured in the semi-finals. The 6-1 run that turned the tide, featured six different Blue Devils getting on the scoresheet as, Tim McNichol, Scott Allen, Jacob Shure, Bijan Firouzan, Will McMahon and Doran Graham all tallied markers in the run. Graham would end the night with three goals for the gold medal winners. Ed Lally scored a pair of goals for the Sewickley Panthers in the loss. Lebo netminder, Riley Kirkland might have been the best player on the field for either team as he made at least two handfuls of spectacular saves to help secure the win for his club. Withe the win Mount Lebanon improves their record for the year to 16-3-0 while the Panthers fall to 15-5-0. Both teams continue on into the PIAA playoffs.

2011 WPIAL DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Hampton Talbots 14 – Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions 11 (MSA)
Two years after defeating Greensburg Central Catholic in the WPIAL Division II Championship, the Hampton Talbots did it again, outlasting the Centurions for a 14-11 win at Chartiers Valley High School. Greensburg Central Catholic would not make it easy on the Talbots, as they would hop out to a 6-2 lead early on. However, Hampton would tighten up from there on and get big efforts from attackers Jimmy Kuczynski and Andy Demichiei. Hampton would battle back from the 6-2 hole, scoring eight of the next nine goals and taking a 10-7 lead. However, the Centurions would keep fighting, scoring three straight goals in a 36-second span to even the game at 10-10. Hampton would score four of the final five goals though, hold GCC scoreless through the final four minutes of play and win 14-11, capturing the WPIAL Division II Championship. Kuczynski would lead all scorers, exploding for seven goals, half of his teams total for the game. His teammate, Demichiei, would chip in a goal. However, his five assists (three to Kuczynski) would be his biggest contribution. Hamptons season ends in a joyous way, at 13-7-0. Greensburg Central Catholic, who got three goals from Ryland Smith, Matt Pezze and John Bursch will see their season end with silver, at 16-5-0.
