Bailey Parshall tossed a two-hit shutout striking out 12 and walking only two as the Lady Leopards raised their Section 3 AAA record to 8-3 and overall record to 14-5.

Parshall also went 4-4 at the plate with a double and three singles to key the Leopards 11 hit attack.  Kourtney Gavatorta got Belle Vernon on the board with a bases loaded 2 run double in the bottom of the first inning to put BVA up 2-0 after 1 inning. It could have been worse, but West Mifflin pitcher Amber Cook was able to pitch her way out of a one-out bases loaded jam by getting back to back pop-ups to end the inning with the Leopards stranding 3 runners.

Belle Vernon struck again in the third when Parshall led off with a double to left field. Brooke Farmer, running for Parshall, advanced to 3rd base following a pair of infield hits by Gavatorta and Erica Amoroso. Farmer scored on Katelin Legazza’s fielder’s choice to make it 3-0 Leopards.

They struck again in the fifth with Legazza leading off with a single and advancing to second on Alyssa Larson’s perfect sacrifice bunt. She was forced to hold at third on Jordan French’s double but scored when Kelsey Lynn brought her home on an infield out. French moved up to third and after Megan Christner walked, scored on a double steal by the Lady Leps making it 5-0 BV.

Belle Vernon’s final run came in the bottom of the 6th when Parshall recorded her 4th hit of the game a leadoff single. Farmer again came in to run and advanced to 3rd on Amoroso’s double. Katelin Legazza picked up her second RBI of the game on another infield out and the Leps lead grew to 6-0.

Parshall made it stand up striking out the side in the top of the 7th.

West Mifflin drops to 2-9 in the section and 7-11 overall.  Belle Vernon has a huge game vs. EF at home on Tuesday to determine the second place finisher in the section.  EF won the first game between the two 1-0, so it should be an outstanding game at Mike Fenyar Field in Belle Vernon.
