As the old rock group Bachman Turner Overdrive once sang, Baldwin on senior day was ‘Taking Care of Business’ as they stayed on the heels of the AAAA-4 first place Canon-McMillan Big Macs with a 14-0 whitewash of the Upper St. Clair Panthers Tuesday evening.

Baldwin scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Senior Jaime Schleicher continued her amazing season (now hitting .750) with an RBI single to score Taylor Dadig to get the party started. Senior Ana Hale delivered an RBI single, two runs scored on wild pitches and Addy Tagg drove in a pair with a single as the Highlanders sent ten to the plate against starter Lillian Caudill of USC.

Baldwin chased Caudill in the second inning with four more runs highlighted by a two run double by Sam Wampler that scored St. Vincent recruit Ashley Brady and Schleicher, a run score triple by Hale who then scored on an RBI ground out by Carly Santillo.

Katie Knezevich hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Dadig and the Highlanders completed their offensive onslaught with three runs in the fourth inning on senior Barb Spegar’s two run single that scored Santillo and Emma Berta and a sac fly by Schleicher.

Hale, who is going to Penn State on a full academic scholarship, pitched a five inning no-hitter as only one Panthers hitter reached base on a Hale error in the fourth inning.

A very young Upper St. Clair team, with only one senior and one junior on the roster, falls to 1-9 in the section and 2-13 overall.

Meanwhile, Baldwin improves to 8-2 and 9-3 overall as they prepare for a big showdown for first place on Thursday when they travel to Canon-McMillan. That game as well as all of the Highlanders playoff games can be heard here on the MSA Sports Network.
