Hometown Softball Program Game Recap – South Side – 04/29/2012

In Hometown Softball Action the South Side Rams beat the Rochester Rams 18-2 in 4 innings. The South Side Rams scored 9 runs on 7 hits in the first inning and never looked back. They plated 1 run in the 3rd inning and ended the game with 8 runs on 8 hits in the bottom of the 4th inning invoking the 15 run rule. South Side had 18 runs on 17 hits.

The game started under cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 40’s. The game ended in a light hail storm a first for the crew of the MSA Sports Network and the South Side coach Theresa Waxler.     ” We have played in sheets of snow and rain but never hail” she said after the game dodging the hail.

For South Side they are currently sitting in second place in section 5 single A with a record of 7-1. Right now they are 2 1/2 games out of first place behind Shenago the section leader with a 9-0 record. They are 12-3 overall and have four games this coming week. Starting on Monday they play road games against Shenango, then Union and Aliquippa thru Wednesday. Then they will have their Senior day on Thursday May 3rd. That game will also be broadcast as a Hometown Softball broadcast as they take on their section rival the Western Beaver Golden Beaver’s. In all likelihood they will need to win all four to share the section title. If Shenango loses another game and ends up with two losses South Side can win the section out right. They need to win one more game to clinch a playoff spot for the Single A playoffs.

In today’s game the Rams were led by a fantastic group of young players. On their roster they have 8 Sr’s, 2 JR’s, 7 Soph’s and 7 Freshman.  Starting for them in their lineup 6 Sr’s, 1 Jr, 1 Soph, and 2 Freshman. With only losing one senior last year this team came into the year with a ton of experience. They are also set for the next few years with talent as they have 14 girls in the Sophomore or Freshman class.

Lets meet the Rams and what they did in the game today.  Center fielder Carla Riggs a SR went 1 for 3 with a single, 3 runs scored and an RBI. Freshman 2b Cheyenne Seik went 2 for 4 with a HR and a single. She also scored once and had 4 RBI. Seik also came straight from Ogelby West Virginia where she was participating in the Academic games there. Her parents drove her the hour and a half so she could be at the game, then drove back to help the academic team. She is a 4.0 student and a team player. Congrats Cheyenne!  SR  RF Cassy Gentile went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. SR 1B Trisha Lamont was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored a double, single and an RBI. Freshman  LF Alexis Dhayer went 3 for 4 with 2 triples, a single, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.

Pitcher and JR Alexis Tripp pitched 4 innings, got the win and only gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. She struck out 1 and did not walk a batter. Sophomore Sarah Androlia the SS was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, a double, single and 1 run scored. SR Marla Thomas the catcher was 2 for 3 with a triple, a single, 2 runs scored an RBI and a stolen base. SR 3B Charity Busa Davis was 3 for 3 with 3 singles, a run scored and an RBI. SR DP Ashley Waxler was 1 for 2 with a single, a walk, 3 runs scored, an an RBI.

Every South Side girl had at least one hit, one RBI, and one run scored. No one struck out, and only  3 players made two outs at bat. It was a true team win today for the Rams. However the 2 Freshman had the best days of all. Combined Seik and Dhayer went 5 for 8 with 1 HR, 2 triples, 2 singles, 3 runs scored, and 8 RBI.

If its rain, sleet, snow, hail or even a bright sunny day, its always a good day to come out to see the hitting machine of the South Side Rams girls softball team. A fun team to watch, full of upper classmen, and young up and coming stars.
