The defending WPIAL AAA Softball Champions are off to a hot start. Montour (4-2, 2-0) scored three runs in the 1st inning and three runs in the 2nd inning en route to a 8-2 win over Ringgold (2-1, 1-1) on Thursday afternoon at Fairhaven Park in Kennedy Township.

Eight players in Montour's lineup recorded a hit and five different players picked up an RBI for the Spartans, who have the tough task of replacing three starters: pitcher Kaitlyn Kutchman (Seton HIll), Tori Roman and Allison Hyradil.

Stacey Capp went 2-for-2 and reached base in all four at-bats, while making numerous spectacular defensive plays. She and Stephanie Seibert scored three runs for Montour, which received a complete game from pitcher Olivia Dixon, who gave up 7 hits, walked 3, struck out 3 and allowed 2 earned runs.

The Spartans were propelled to a big lead early. Up 3-0 after one inning, they would bang out four doubles, a single and score three more runs in the 2nd inning.

Down 6-0, Ringgold would threaten in the 4th. Celina Cantini would hit a 2-run home run to cut Montour's lead to 6-2. The Rams would then load the bases with their 7, 8 and 9 hitters, but leadoff hitter Hallie Szymanski would fly out to center to end the threat.

Montour would tack on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning, giving them the 8-2 lead.

Cantini started in the circle for Ringgold, but only lasted 1.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 6 earned runs. Jessica Angell would replace her and throw 4.1 innings, giving up just 5 hits and 2 earned runs.

Montour has now score 55 runs in their first 6 games of the season. Seibert, Capp, Malory Gerst and Alyssa McMurtrie all had multiple hits. Gerst, Megan Vacco and Demi Lewin all had multiple RBI's for Montour, who will face Trinity on Friday. Ringgold, who has not finished above .500 since 2004, will next take on Carrick on Saturday.
