The Brentwood Spartans needed only 5 innings to dispatch their Class AA, Section 4 foe East Allegheny on a chilly spring day.

The Spartans unleashed a 12-hit attack and were helped along by 3 critical Wildcat errors.

Brentwood’s Miranda Klein led the way offensively, collecting three hits, scoring three runs, driving home four runs and stealing a base. Alexis Gaughan and Natalie Andrews each had two hits as well. Gaughan scored two runs while Andrews drove home a pair of Spartan teammates.

East Allegheny actually held a 1-0 lead after they scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning after an RBI single from Milee Pugliano.

But, the Spartans responded with a 5-spot in the bottom half of the frame, getting five straight base hits from Taryn Sherry, Alexis Wagner, Klein, Andrews and Alexis Bubacz. Bubacz’s single was the big hit of the inning, knocking in two runs. All five runs scored with two outs in the inning.

Brentwood would score four unearned runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, taking a 9-1 lead, and would never look back.

Brentwood pitcher Meghan Gildea was one of 3 seniors recognized on Senior Day. She then went out and pitched five innings of 2-hit ball, striking out six and not allowing an earned run.
