Baldwin beat visiting Chartiers Valley 8-5 in Section 4 AAAA action Saturday afternoon, five days after the Highlanders 5-4 loss to the the Colts had dropped Baldwin to 2-4 in the standings.
Char Valley looking to inch their way up the standings got off to an early 2 run lead. Baldwin struggled defensively in the first inning allowing an RBI base hit and allowing a run score after a wild pitch.
Baldwin was held scoreless in the first inning, and responded with a 1-2-3 top of the second.
Char Valley had a rocky second inning defensively, allowing the Highlanders to load the bases with only 1 out. Jaime Schleicher came to the plate and cleared the bases with a grand slam.
Both teams stepped up their defensive game until the Highlanders added 1 run in the fifth and 3 more in the sixth.
Last at bats for Chartiers Valley gave them 3 outs to score 5 runs to tie the score at 8. The Colts didn’t go down without a fight adding 3 runs and had runners on first and second with the tieing run at the plate with only 1 out.
Pitching for the Highlanders was Anna Hale, and she was not going to allow the Colts tie the game. Hale struck out her last two batters to lock the 8-5 victory for Baldwin.
With the win the Highlanders improve to 3-4 in section play, and the Colts fall to 4-3.
