Hometown Girls Soccer Recap – Upper St. Clair Panthers – 09/19/2015

It was another solid performance for the Upper St. Clair girls soccer team, as the Panthers defeated their South Hills rival Bethel Park on Saturday 3-2.

USC scored twice in less than two minutes in the first half to jump on top of the Blackhawks early.  Landy Mertz found the net in the 14th minute, followed by Katherine Miller’s tally in the 16th minute.

Bethel Park would cut the lead to a goal in the 27th minute, as Kristi Roth found the net from 37-yards out on a free kick.

USC would take the 2-1 lead to the break, then add to it in the 2nd half.

Lauren Dudley netted what would be the game winner with 14:03 left in the 2nd half.  Dudley’s goal was set up by a great pass from Elaina Walnoha, giving Dudley an open look at the net from the top of the goal box.

The Blackhawks would cut it to a one goal game with 11:00 left in the game, as Bailey Farabaugh got behind the Panthers defense to make the score 3-2, which is would end up being the final score as well.

USC played a strong game on both sides of the pitch, dominating in game possession, shots, and chances.  The Panthers outshot Bethel Park 13-4 and had 21 chances to the Blackhawks 5.  With the win, the Panthers improved to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in Section-5 play.  Bethel Park fell to 1-6 overall, and 0-3 in section play.

USC will host Oakland Catholic on Monday and another South Hills rival in Mount Lebanon on Wednesday.  Bethel Park will host Allderdice on Monday before traveling to Baldwin on Wednesday.

The Upper St. Clair girls soccer team will host Peters Township on 9/28 at 8:00pm in a match you can hear on MSA Sports.
