Braylon Thomas threw for 187 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 124 yards and two more scores to lead Union to a 40-8 victory over Shenango in the Class A Big 7 Conference on Thursday night.

Dayne Johnke had four catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns and Grayson Blakely grabbed four balls for 51 yards and two scores for the Scotties (3-1, 1-0). Nico DeSalvo had five carries for 51 yards and a touchdown for Shenango (2-2, 0-1).

Boys soccer

Baldwin 8, Hempfield 1 – Connor Brenneman had a hat trick and Samir Sanyasi added two goals to lead Baldwin (2-6, 1-5) to a Section 2-4A win over Hempfield (0-7, 0-5). Mike Fry and Faustin Kabayiza also had goals for the Highlanders.

Bentworth 4, Beth-Center 0 – Ryan Moessner had two goals and two assists to lead Bentworth (7-1, 4-1) to a Section 2-A win over Beth-Center (4-4, 1-3). Aiden McMurray and Ryan Colbert also scored for the Bearcats.

Bethel Park 4, Connellsville 0 – Xavier Jackson, Adam Thompson, Jackson Friday and Henry Jackson scored and Luke Rubican recorded the shutout for Bethel Park (6-1, 6-0) in a Section 3-3A win over Connellsville (4-5, 2-4).

Burrell 2, Aquinas Academy 1 – Cam Wagner and Jayson Ireland scored to lead Burrell (5-1, 4-1) past Aquinas Academy (3-4, 2-4) in a Section 3-A win.

Butler 2, Fox Chapel 0 – Nick Neubauer and Thomas Sheptak scored, Mason Anderson picked up an assist, and Drew Knight recorded the shutout for Butler (5-2-1, 4-2) in a Section 1-4A win over Fox Chapel (4-3, 3-3).

California 9, Ligonier Valley 1 – Darryl Ray scored six goals to lead California (2-5, 1-3) to a Section 2-A win over Ligonier Valley (1-4, 0-4). Caleb Amoroso, Kaden Weston and Matt Sawa also scored for the Trojans.

Central Valley 8, Blackhawk 1 – Cameron DeVincentis had a hat trick to lead Central Valley (3-3, 3-3) past Blackhawk (0-7, 0-6) in Section 2-3A. Aiden Albertson, Brendan Chiappetta, Noah Clark, Owen Shearer and Sean Kennelly also scored for the Warriors.

Charleroi 4, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 – Arlo McIntrye scored two goals and Bryce Large and Dylan Klinger added a goal apiece to lead Charleroi (9-0, 5-0) past Greensburg Central Catholic (2-4, 2-2) in a Section 2-A win. Grant Brewer scored for the Centurions.

Deer Lakes 8, Greensburg Salem 0 – Peyton Kushon had two goals and three assists and Collin Rodgers added two goals and an assist to lead Deer Lakes (7-1, 6-0) past Greensburg Salem (3-4, 2-4) in Section 2-2A. Jacob Orseno and Cuyler Crim had a goal and an assist and Artemy Parshyn and Joey Kushon also scored.

Elizabeth Forward 3, Woodland Hills 0 – Ethan Childers, Luca Valerio and Will Sinay scored for Elizabeth Forward (3-2-1, 3-2-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Woodland Hills (3-4, 3-3).

Franklin Regional 8, McKeesport 0 – Lorenzo Aguilera, Cruise Lamanna and Ian Johns scored two goals apiece for Franklin Regional (6-2, 5-1) in a Section 4-3A win over McKeesport (0-7, 0-5). Danny Christafano and Andrew Acosta also had goals for the Panthers.

Knoch 12, Leechburg 0 – Sam Caldwell had a hat trick to power Knoch (4-5, 4-2) past Leechburg (0-5, 0-5) in Section 2-2A. Matthew Welsh, Will Parisi, Will Schwalm, Jordan Auther, Evan Haas, Barrett Duffy, Liam Avon, Austin Friedline and Tony Lajevic also scored.

Moon 2, Montour 1 – Mike Walenchok scored twice, including the game-winner with 26 second remaining, to lift Moon (6-1-1, 5-0-1) past Montour (4-1, 4-1) in Section 2-3A.

North Catholic 7, Highlands 2 – Ryan Shantz had a pair of goals and Angelo Amelio, Dylan Scheel, Justin Garvey, Michael Riley and Gabe Nonino also scored to lead North Catholic (2-4, 2-1) past Highlands (2-5, 0-5) in Section 1-3A.

Norwin 2, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Owen Christopher had a goal and an assist and Alex Brown also scored to lead Norwin (7-1, 6-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Will Healy scored for Mt. Lebanon (2-5-1, 2-3-1).

Peters Township 2, Upper St. Clair 1 – Parker Weiss and Nathan Froelich scored as Peters Township (5-2, 4-2) handed Upper St. Clair its first loss in Section 2-4A. Joe Donnelly scored for the Panthers (7-1, 5-1).

Plum 2, Penn-Trafford 1 (OT) – Brady French scored the overtime winner, leading first-place Plum past Penn-Trafford (3-5-1, 2-3-1) in Section 4-3A. Noah Smith also scored and Garrett Chandler had an assist for the Mustangs (7-1, 6-0). Ben Luchs scored for the Warriors.

Quaker Valley 2, Hopewell 0 – Jack Karwoski and Nick Allan scored and Bennett Haas handed out an assist to lead Quaker Valley (5-2, 5-0) past Hopewell (3-3, 2-3) in Section 4-2A.

Seneca Valley 6, Shaler 1 – Cole Kamarec had a hat trick and Tyler Mazanek, Tyler Holloway and Evan Howard added a goal apiece to lead Seneca Valley (8-0, 6-0) to a Section 1-4A win over Shaler (0-7-1, 0-6). Dylan Paylo scored for the Titans.

Serra Catholic 4, Chartiers-Houston 0 – AJ Mejalli scored two goals and Noah Coppola and Collin Holmes added a goal apiece for Serra Catholic (6-1, 4-0) in a Section 4-A win over Chartiers-Houston (0-9, 0-4).

Seton LaSalle 6, Carlynton 0 – Jack Billick scored five goals and Luke Pollice added another to lead Seton LaSalle (4-1-1, 3-1) past Carlynton (4-3, 2-2) in a Section 4-A win. Nick Cherry recorded the shutout.

Springdale 1, Indiana 0 – Billy Lawrence scored the winning goal for Springdale (5-1) in a nonsection victory over Indiana (2-4-1). Nathan Dileo had an assist and Noah Skaugen recorded the shutout.

Thomas Jefferson 4, Ringgold 0 – Jake Shoemaker scored two goals and Raymond Schrello had two assists for Thomas Jefferson (6-1, 4-1) in a Section 3-3A win over Ringgold (7-1, 5-1). Owen Householder and Brayden Miller also scored for the Jaguars.

Trinity 6, Uniontown 0 – Andy Palm had a hat trick, Tyler Johnson collected two goals, and Brady Anderson also scored to lead Trinity (3-2, 3-2) over Uniontown (4-6, 1-5) in Section 3-3A.

Yough 1, Waynesburg 0 – Isaac Pacacha scored the decisive goal to lead Yough (5-2-1, 4-2) past Waynesburg (2-6, 1-5) in Section 3-2A.

Girls soccer

Beaver 2, Blackhawk 1 – Sydney Chontos and Ana Hahn each had a goal and an assist to lead Beaver (4-2) past Blackhawk (4-4) in a nonsection match.

Bentworth 8, Brownsville 0 – Bella Moyer had a hat trick and Jesse Laskey scored twice as Bentworth (3-3-1) beat Brownsville (0-7) in a nonsection match. Meredith Allender, Emiy Kisner and Megan Keturakis also scored and Cassidy Sicchitano had the shutout.

Riverview 7, Armstrong 2 – Lola Abraham collected three goals and four assists and Mary Quinlan had two goals and an assist to lead Riverview (6-1) to a nonsection win over Armstrong (2-5). Lily Hood had a goal and an assist and Cailey Trosch also scored for the Raiders.

South Allegheny 4, Ligonier Valley 0 – Lily Dranko and Rylee Stetz scored two goals apiece for South Allegheny (6-1) in a nonsection win over Ligonier Valley (0-6).

Field hockey

Penn-Trafford 4, Latrobe 0 – Ava Hershberger had two goals and two assists, Caeley Simon scored twice, and MacKenzie Keenan dished out two assists to lead Penn-Trafford to a Section 2A win. Nessa Wright recorded the shutout.

Girls tennis

Section 1-3A – Defending WPIAL champion Mia Williams of Penn-Trafford rolled to her second straight section singles championship, defeating Franklin Regional’s Ellen Liu. Williams, a sophomore, won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Neither Williams nor Liu lost a game heading into the finals. Franklin Regional’s Michelle Yan defeated Kiski Area’s Ambur Orowitz in the third-place match. The top four finishers in Class 3A advance to the WPIAL singles tournament next Wednesday and Thursday.

Section 2-3A – Pine-Richland freshman Caroline Prisk finished off a dominant section tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over third-seeded senior Laticia Tici-Wessel of North Allegheny. North Hills’ Elinor Kim topped Seneca Valley’s Kylie Staudt in straight sets for third place.

Section 3-3A – Another fabulous freshman, top-seeded Meriwether McCargo of Shady Side Academy, won a section singles title on her first try, defeating third-seeded senior Gabrielle Moder of Baldwin, 6-2, 6-0, in the finals. McCargo dropped just two games in the tournament. Freshman Mollie Sclichter topped Oakland Catholic teammate Abby Santoro in straight sets in the third-place match.

Section 4-3A – Second-seeded senior Sophia Cunningham of Mt. Lebanon held off another freshman, top seed Cami Fischer of Bethel Park, in a three-set championship match, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3). Bethel Park’s Lily Sierkadefeated Mt. Lebanon’s Jackie Tang in three sets in the third-place match.

Section 1-2A – Greensburg Central Catholic junior Sasha Hoffman, the top seed, rolled to a section singles title with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over third-seeded Derry senior Danielle Dominick. Hoffman lost a total of two games in four matches in the tournament. Anna Buterbaugh defeated Tess Kuzneski in straight sets in a battle of Indiana teammates in the third-place match. In Class 2A, the top three finishers advance to the WPIAL tournament next Wednesday and Thursday.

Section 2-2A – Top-seeded sophomore Gabriella Dusi of Belle Vernon turned in a brilliant performance in the section singles tournament, losing a total of four games in three matches. In the finals, she defeated second-seeded sophomore Grace Kempton of South Park, 6-0, 6-2. Avella’s Ava Frank oulasted Raelle Wilshire of Chartiers Valley in three sets in the third-place match.

Section 3-2A – Hampton junior Grace Stitt lived up to her top seed, defeating second-seeded junior Katie Hardy of North Catholic, 6-0, 6-2, in the section singles championship match. Knoch’s Jade Nether earned a berth in the WPIAL tournament with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over , Alexandra Taylor of Aquinas Academy in the third-place match.

Section 4-2A – In a matchup of top seniors, top-seeded Chloe DeSanzo of Beaver defeated third-seeded Gwyneth Belt of Sewickley Academy, 6-0, 6-2, in the section finals. Sewickley Academy’s Maria Sirianni beat Central Valley’s Rachel Hardek in three sets for third place.

Section 5-2A – Cecilia Gurgel, the top-seeded junior out of Winchester Thurston, completed an impressive run through the section singles tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over second-seeded senior Peja Cruise of Montour. Gurgel lost a total of one game in four matches. Therese Bernas of OLSH defeated Jay Olawaiye of Quaker Valley in straight sets in the third-place match.

Volleyball

Beaver 3, Beaver Falls 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 10 kills, Chloe List had eight kills, and Zoe Ringer had 22 assists for Beaver in a Section 1-2A win over Beaver Falls.

Burgettstown 3, Beaver County Christian 1 — Kaitlyn Nease had 15 kills, Layla Sherman added seven kills, and Peyton Mermon recorded 14 assists and four aces to lead Burgettstown to a Section 1-A victory.

Canon-McMillan 3, Peters Township 0 – Natalie Carr had 23 kills to lead Canon-McMillan to a Section 2-4A win. Cali Dagen had eight kills and Abby Tucker added seven kills and four blocks. Josie Carter recorded 18 assists and nine digs and Julia Murdy had 10 digs and seven assists for the Big Macs.

Hempfield 3, Norwin 2 – Ashley Hosni had 14 kills and 19 digs to lead Hempfield to a Section 3-4A win. Lauren Howard added 12 kills, Zoey Hopkins had 29 assists and Sarah Podkul recorded 22 digs for the Spartans.

Knoch 3, Blackhawk 0 – Karlee Buterbaugh had 11 kills, Sierra Mock added six kills, and Brynne Smith had 12 service points for Knoch in a Section 4-3A win.

Latrobe 3, Franklin Regional 2 – Sophia Reitz had 12 kills and Grace Huang added 10 kills, three blocks and two aces for Franklin Regional in a Section 5-3A loss. Brooke Feorene recorded 23 digs, Maria Piraino had 14 digs and Carson Burgh handed out 27 assists for the Panthers.

Ligonier Valley 3, Neighborhood Academy 0 – Alexa Harding had 10 kills and Lacy Sosko added eight to lead Ligonier Valley to a Section 5-2A win. Natalie Bizup had 18 service points and three aces, Sydnee Foust added 12 service points with three aces and Saylor Clise had 14 assists.

Mapletown 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Isabella Garnek had 11 kills, Treslee Weston had eight kills, and Bailey Rafferty had 25 assists and three aces for Mapletown in a Section 2-A win over Jefferson-Morgan.

Southmoreland 3, Washington 0 – Gabby Grabiak had three kills and two aces and Gianna Perbonish added six digs and two kills in a Section 3-2A win for Southmoreland.
