High school roundup for Oct. 30, 2024: Beaver sweeps into WPIAL girls volleyball finals

Kailyn Connelly had 12 kills and a block and Jaedyn Brown collected nine kills, 10 digs and three aces to lead top-seeded Beaver to a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Hampton (13-6) in the WPIAL Class 3A girls volleyball semifinals Wednesday night.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20. Aubrey Bumblis had 25 digs, Zoe Ringer dished out 26 assists and added five kills and Lanie Malobabich recorded six kills and four blocks for the Bobcats (18-3), who will face No. 2 Mars in the championship match at 3 p.m. Saturday at Peters Township.
North Allegheny 3, Upper St. Clair 2 – The seven-time defending state champion Tigers fought their way to a 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 15-11 victory over No. 4 Upper St. Clair (13-6) in the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals. Top-seeded North Allegheny (16-1) will meet No. 3 North Catholic in the championship match at 5 p.m. Saturday at Peters Township.
North Catholic 3, Canon-McMillan 2 – No. 3 North Catholic (16-2) pulled out a 25-17, 14-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13 victory over No. 2 Canon-McMillan (16-2) in the Class 4A semifinals. Natalie Carr had 19 kills and 15 digs and Cali Dagen added 11 kills and 15 digs for the Big Macs.
Boys soccer
Allderdice 2, DuBois 1 – Niv Friedman and Ethan Voight-Cherna scored and Jacek Piekut recorded an assist as Allderdice (13-4-1) defeated District 9 champion DuBois (14-5-1) in a PIAA Class 3A subregional to advance to the first round of the state tournament.
Deer Lakes 2, Burrell 1 – Connor Moore and Cuyler Crim scored to lead No. 3 Deer Lakes past No. 13 Burrell in the WPIAL Class 2A boys soccer third-place match, earning the district’s final berth in the state playoffs. Jacob Orseno assisted both goals for the Lancers, who won all three meetings with the Bucs this season by the same 2-1 score.
Mars 2, Bethel Park 0 – Max Davies and Sean Scanlon scored and Eli Stasiowski recorded the shutout to lead No. 6 Mars (16-2-4) past No. 5 Bethel Park (13-8) in the WPIAL Class 3A third-place game, earning the district’s final state playoff spot. Miles FraIer and Nick Butler had assists for the Fightin’ Planets.
Girls soccer
DuBois 8, Obama Academy 0 – Anna Korney scored five goals to lead District 9 champion DuBois (18-3) past Obama Academy (4-13-1) in a PIAA Class 3A subregional to move on to the first round of the state tournament.
