High school roundup for May 14, 2025: Shaler softball’s Bria Bosilijevac throws 2nd straight playoff no-hitter

Bria Bosilijevac threw a second straight playoff no-hitter, striking out 12, to lead No. 2 Shaler to a 9-0 victory over No. 10 Trinity (12-10) in the WPIAL Class 5A softball quarterfinals Wednesday.

Hours after winning WPIAL medals in the shot put and javelin, Jayla Antomachi went 3 for 3 with a run scored for the Titans (16-4). Alyssa Schaffold hit a home run, Olivia Sachs doubled and Ella Nash drove in two runs for Shaler, which will meet No. 3 West Allegheny in the semifinals.

Bosilijevac also threw a no-hitter, striking out 16, in an 8-0 first-round win over Connellsville.

Allderdice 10, Brashear 0 – Braelyn Altman threw a six-inning no-hitter and struck out 13 for Allderdice (10-4) in a City League semifinal win over Brashear (0-5). Altman had two triples and two RBIs, Delia Graham went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and Karma Morgan hit two doubles for Allderdice.

Beaver 8, Knoch 5 – Sami Springman tied the game with an RBI single and winning pitcher Olivia Peabody gave No. 6 seed Beaver (15-5) the lead for good with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to lift the Bobcats to an upset win over No. 3 seed Knoch (17-4) in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Cali Coups drove in two runs and Abby Hojdila plated a run for Beaver. Emersyn Jones homered and knocked in two runs and Carissa Tekely had an RBI for the Knights. Beaver advances to play the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 2 Hampton and No. 7 Indiana in the semifinals.

Canon-McMillan 6, Pine-Richland 1 – Callie Stonemark and Addy Downey each had two hits and an RBI and winning pitcher Brooke Bumer struck out seven in a complete game to lead No. 4 Canon-McMillan (13-8) to a Class 6A quarterfinal win. Calle Henne and Norah Cherry doubled for No. 5 Pine-Richland (13-8). Kadence Merigo singled and drove in a run for the Big Macs, who will face No. 1 Hempfield in the semifinals.

North Hills 6, Fox Chapel 3 – Alexa Edmunds and Abby Sutton hit RBI doubles in the first inning and Brianna Zwick belted a two-run double in the second to lead No. 4 North Hills (17-4) to a Class 5A quarterfinal win. Sutton was the winning pitcher, allowing eight hits and striking out four. Giuliana Foley homered, Adina Rosen singled and doubled and Ella Eisner had two hits and an RBI for No. 12 Fox Chapel (14-7). North Hills will meet No. 1 Penn-Trafford in the semifinals.

Penn-Trafford 14, Chartiers Valley 11 – Giuliana Youngo went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and six RBIs and recorded the game’s final out on a diving catch in the right-center gap with the bases loaded to power top-seeded Penn-Trafford (19-2) to a Class 5A quarterfinal win over No. 9 Chartiers Valley (12-7). Kylie Anthony drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors, who will face No. 4 North Hills in the semifinals. Delaney O’Connor homered, doubled and knocked in two runs, Alana Woods plated four runs and Ava Dunlap finished with two RBIs for the Colts.

West Allegheny 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Autumn Bielecki threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead No. 3 West Allegheny (16-4) to a Class 5A quarterfinal win. Savanna Benish went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Katelyn Cook and Alexis Santucci had two hits each for West A, which will meet No. 2 Shaler in the semifinals. Morgan Alisesky had the hit for No. 6 Thomas Jefferson (13-7).

Baseball

Ambridge 5, Knoch 0 – Joe Leseiko threw a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for No. 9 Ambridge (9-10) in a Class 4A first-round win. Cody Stull and Eli Andrews singled for No. 8 Knoch (10-11). Leseiko doubled and drove in a run and Adam Fernandez went 3 for 4 with an RBI for Ambridge, which will face No. 1 Indiana in the quarterfinals.

Central Valley 6, Greensburg Salem 2 – Nathan Angelo went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Blake Heater doubled and drove in a run and Jacob Hunter tripled to lead No. 7 Central Valley (11-10) to a Class 4A first-round win. Ayden Crissman tripled and scored for No. 10 Greensburg Salem (9-7). The Warriors will meet No. 2 West Mifflin in the quarterfinals.

Latrobe 2, Fox Chapel 1 — Eli Boring, Luke Nipar-Smith, Cole Short and Hayden Porterfield hit consecutive singles in a two-run fourth inning to lead No. 9 Latrobe in a Class 5A first-round game. Short went the distance, giving up five hits and striking out seven for the Wildcats (15-6), who will face top-seeded Pine-Richland in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Jeremy Haigh had a double and an RBI for the Foxes (15-6).

Pine-Richland 1, Trinity 0 – Anthony Mengine singled and came around to score on a balk call in the first inning, which proved to be the only run No. 1 Pine-Richland (18-3) needed after Keegan Deihl threw a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in a Class 5A first-round win. Anthony Mengine went 2 for 3 and Logan Plummer and Anthony Annichine also had hits for the Rams, who will face No. 9 Latrobe in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Matthew Robaugh and Garrett Stoy hit a single apiece for No. 16 Trinity (10-10).

Ringgold 9, Blackhawk 5 – Tyler Fisher drove in three runs and Andrew Sprinkle singled and doubled to lead No. 11 Ringgold (11-10) to a Class 4A first-round upset. Samuel Saliba went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Steve Knallay singled and doubled for No. 6 Blackhawk (10-8). Gavin Angotti had three hits and Demetri Lowe drove in two runs for the Rams, who will face Elizabeth Forward in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Shaler 8, Montour 0 – Colby Weber threw a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts to power No. 3 Shaler (14-6) to a Class 5A first-round win. Ben Yeckel and Landon Schiffhauer each homered and drove in two runs for the Titans, who will take on the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 6 Penn-Trafford and No. 11 Connellsville in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Michael Ivanoff had a hit for No. 14 Montour (12-8).

Thomas Jefferson 4, Upper St. Clair 1 – Dominic Metz threw a complete game, giving up six hits and striking out nine, to lead No. 5 Thomas Jefferson (15-4) in the Class 5A first round. Noah Kasner tripled and scored on a Luke Kosko RBI single and delivered an RBI single of his own for the Jaguars, who earned a quarterfinal matchup with the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 4 Bethel Park and No. 13 Franklin Regional. Carter Kirsch tripled and scored and Tyler Lesko had an RBI single for TJ. Tanner Schroeck tripled and scored on a Nolan Wilson single for No. 12 Upper St. Clair (13-7).

Boys lacrosse

Upper St. Clair 11, Fox Chapel 6 – Ryan Buonomo scored four goals and Charlie Leimkuehler and Holden Rickel added two goals each to lead No. 3 Upper St. Clair (11-6) to a Class 3A quarterfinal win. Tucker Cullen had two goals and two assists for No. 6 Fox Chapel (10-5).

In other Class 3A quarterfinals, top-seeded Mt. Lebanon routed No. 8 Central Catholic, 17-1, No. 4 North Allegheny edged past No. 5 Pine-Richland, 7-2, and No. 2 Shady Side Academy took care of No. 7 Canon-McMillan, 15-2.

Girls lacrosse

Quaker Valley 16, Seton LaSalle 3 – Lucy Roig scored six goals, Kate Miller added four and Emily Reiner made six saves, including the 600th of her career, to lead No. 7 Quaker Valley (10-4) past No. 2 Seton LaSalle (15-2) in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Mia Floro, Lily Millet and Anna Campbell added two goals each for the Quakers.

In other Class 2A quarterfinals, top-seeded Mars rolled Oakland Catholic, 23-1, No. 4 Blackhawk got past No. 5 Hampton, 16-9, and No. 3 Chartiers Valley topped No. 6 South Fayette, 10-4.
