Cheyenne Piper finished off a perfect game by striking out the side in the seventh inning, leading No. 2 Ligonier Valley to an 8-0 victory over No. 15 Keystone Oaks (8-10) in a WPIAL Class 3A first-round softball playoff game Tuesday.
Piper finished with 14 strikeouts to surpass the 500 mark for her career. Sydnee Foust doubled twice and drove in a run and Abby Springer had a double and two RBIs for the Rams, who will face No. 10 Ellwood City in the quarterfinals Thursday. Allison Heffelfinger drove in a pair of runs and Marlee Miller had two hits and an RBI for Ligonier Valley.
Avonworth 12, Hopewell 2 – Alivia Lantzy threw a six-inning, two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and hit two doubles and drove in two runs for No. 1 Avonworth (13-3) in a Class 3A first-round win. Sydney Savatt went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs for the Antelopes, who will face No. 9 Yough in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Kara Barkovich hit a single, triple and drove in a run for No. 16 Hopewell (7-12).
Charleroi 11, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Sofia Celashi threw a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and drove in a pair of runs to lead No. 6 Charleroi (14-4) past No. 11 Greensburg Central Catholic (7-7) in the Class 2A first round. Madalynn Lancy doubled and Kaylee Sypolt knocked in two runs for the Cougars, who will meet No. 3 Laurel in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Ellwood City 4, Burrell 2 – Winning pitcher Amber McQuiston threw a complete-game two-hitter and had two hits and an RBI to lead No. 10 Ellwood City (15-4) to a Class 3A first-round win. Kaylee Palombi drove in three runs and Riley Prestopine went 2 for 2 for the Wolverines, who will take on No. 2 Ligonier Valley in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Pyper Ferres hit a solo home run and Shelby Novak drove in a run for No. 7 Burrell (10-8).
Jefferson-Morgan 10, Carlynton 0 – Emilee Bazzoli threw a five-inning, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and hit an RBI double to lead No. 8 Jefferson-Morgan (7-8) past No. 9 Carlynton (8-11) in the Class A first round. Addie Larkin and Addyson Teagarden also doubled for the Rockets, who will meet No. 1 Union in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Mohawk 8, Waynesburg 5 – Addy Moskal and Mylie Pistorius doubled and drove in a run apiece and Lydia Cole singled and doubled to lead No. 4 Mohawk (15-5) to a Class 3A first-round win. Gina Tedrow singled, doubled and drove in a run for No. 13 Waynesburg (7-12). The Warriors will face No. 12 Freeport in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
OLSH 8, Steel Valley 5 – Leann Walzer homered and drove in two runs and Morgan O’Brien had a triple and an RBI to lead No. 5 OLSH (13-4) in the Class 2A first round. Ava Ciummo singled, doubled and drove in a run and Julian Pinter had a double and an RBI for the Chargers, who will face No. 4 Serra Catholic in the quarterfinals Thursday. Lily Wright doubled twice and drove in a run for No. 12 Steel Valley (6-11).
Riverside 9, Apollo-Ridge 8 – Camryn Friello had three hits and an RBI and Carlee Crawford and Mia Williams each singled, doubled and knocked in a run for No. 9 Riverside (7-9) in a Class 2A first-round win. The Panthers will face No. 1 Neshannock in the quarterfinals Thursday. Cassidy Ryan hit a two-run triple with two outs in the seventh but was stranded at third. Jocelyn Snyder homered and drove in three and Olivia Saxion singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Vikings.
Serra Catholic 11, Beth-Center 3 – Catherine Clarke drove in three runs and winning pitcher Madisyn Zigarovich knocked in a pair to lead No. 4 Serra Catholic (12-4) to a Class 2A first-round win. Keyara Watkins had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles, who will take on No. 5 OLSH in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Chloe Byrne had two hits and three RBIs for No. 13 Beth-Center (6-9).
Shenango 5, Burgettstown 4 – Kennedi Lynn threw a three-hit shutout and struck out eight for No. 7 Shenango (11-7) in a Class 2A first-round win. Brianna Aluisa singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Wildcats, who will face No. 2 Bentworth in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Layla Sherman and Brooklyn Robinson drove in a run apiece for No. 10 Burgettstown (9-12).
South Park 1, Deer Lakes 0 – Sydney Sekely threw a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and Mady Wilder tripled and scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 3 South Park (17-1) survived a scare in the Class 3A first round. Hard-luck losing pitcher Laney Dineff gave up one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts and had the Lancers’ only hit. The Eagles will face No. 6 Central Valley in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
South Side 13, Monessen 3 – Karis Dunham went 3 for 3 with three doubles and five RBIs to lead No. 7 South Side (13-4) to a Class A first-round win. Maya Ringhoff had two singles, a double and two RBIs and Halina Matijevich and Kenidi Cook each singled and doubled for the Rams, who will face No. 2 Carmichaels in the quarterfinals Thursday. Grace Clingenpeel doubled and drove in a run and Joey Hurst also hit a double for No. 10 Monessen (7-7).
West Greene 11, Leechburg 1 – Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert struck out 10 in five innings and Emmaline Beazell doubled and drove in three runs to lead No. 5 West Greene (12-6) to a Class A first-round win. Kylee David had two hits and two RBIs and Kendra Tharp doubled and drove in a run for the Pioneers, who will meet No. 4 Frazier in the quarterfinals Thursday. Danica Sopcak singled and drove in a run for No. 12 Leechburg (8-10).
Yough 2, McGuffey 1 – Kylee Fisher allowed one unearned run in six innings and Adoria Waldier worked out of a jam in the seventh to earn the save and lead No. 9 Yough (9-4) to a Class 3A first-round win. McGuffey had runners on second and third with nobody out in the seventh. Waldier got two strikeouts and threw out a runner at the plate on a comebacker. Katie Proctor doubled and drove in a run for the Cougars, who will meet No. 1 Avonworth in the quarterfinals Thursday. Faith Ealy and Maura Janovich had two hits each for No. 9 McGuffey (10-5).

Avonworth 7, Greensburg Salem 0 – Cooper Scharding threw a complete-game no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead No. 7 Avonworth (13-8) past No. 10 Greensburg Salem (8-9) in a Class 3A first-round win. Luke Zelinko doubled and drove in two runs for the Antelopes, who will face No. 15 East Allegheny in Monday’s quarterfinals.
Burgettstown 10, Jeannette 3 – Matt Bredel singled, doubled and drove in a run and William Stevenson drove in two runs for No. 4 Burgettstown (12-3-1) in a Class 2A first-round win. Winning pitcher Brodie Kuzior struck out 13 in 6⅓ innings for the Blue Devils, who will face No. 5 Greensburg Central Catholic in Monday’s quarterfinals. Noah Sunder tripled and Brayden Luttner doubled for No. 13 Jeannette (7-10).
Carmichaels 9, Carlynton 1 – Winning pitcher Liam Lohr struck out nine and helped his cause with a single, double and three RBIs to power No. 8 Carmichaels (12-4) to a Class A first-round win. Robbie Wilson-Jones and Dominic Colarusso each drove in two runs for the Mighty Mikes, who will face No. 1 Union in Monday’s quarterfinals. Graydon Harvey doubled for No. 9 Carlynton (12-9).
Chartiers-Houston 7, Freedom 4 – Luke Camden doubled, homered and drove in two runs and Anthony Romano went 3 for 3 with a double to lead No. 6 Chartiers-Houston (10-8) to a Class 2A first-round win. Boden Hilliard singled, doubled and drove in two runs for No. 11 Freedom (11-9). Winning pitcher Keegan Kosek doubled and drove in a run for the Bucs, who will meet No. 3 Seton LaSalle in the quarterfinals Monday.
East Allegheny 10, Mohawk 1 – Joe Connors went 4 for 5 with a double, triple and five RBIs and Ryan Kirk went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs to lead No. 15 East Allegheny (12-6) to a Class 3A first-round win. Michael Cahill threw 5⅔ innings, struck out six and allowed three hits for the Wildcats, who will meet No. 7 Avonworth in Monday’s quarterfinals. Vinny Pezzuolo singled and doubled for No. 2 Mohawk (16-4).
Laurel 7, Charleroi 2 – Hunter Kobialka struck out six in seven innings and William Zwolenik drove in two runs for No. 8 Laurel (11-8) in a Class 2A first-round win. Kaden Woods and Jackson Keranko drove in a run apiece for No. 9 Charleroi (10-8). The Spartans will face No. 1 Serra Catholic in Monday’s quarterfinals.

South Park 3, Shady Side Academy 2 – Cooper Hochendonor broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double in the top of the seventh and struck out 16 in seven innings for No. 9 South Park (13-6) in a Class 3A first-round win. Jonah Sackrowitz tripled and Soren Cooper homered for No. 8 Shady Side Academy (9-8). The Eagles will face No. 1 Riverside in Monday’s quarterfinals.
West Greene 6, Leechburg 2 – The seventh-seeded Pioneers (12-5) beat No. 10 Leechburg (9-8) in a Class A first-round game. West Greene will meet No. 2 Eden Christian in the quarterfinals Monday.
Western Beaver 11, Sewickley Academy 5 – Benji Valdez and Brendon Fortner drove in two runs apiece for No. 5 Western Beaver (10-7) in a Class A first-round win. Luke Trimble has three hits for the Golden Beavers, who will face No. 4 Bishop Canevin in Monday’s quarterfinals. Will Straka went 3 for 3 with a double for No. 12 Sewickley Academy (5-11).

Blackhawk 22, Oakland Catholic 3 – Mia Piocquidio scored 11 goals, hitting the 100 mark for the season, to lead No. 5 Blackhawk (15-2) to a Class 2A first-round win. Ryleigh McKnight and Lauren Fair each added three goals and two assists and Andrea Kinger scored twice for the Cougars, who will meet No. 4 Penn-Trafford in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Moon 9, Hampton 6 – Marleigh Therrien scored four goals, Seanna Rodriguez and Reese Keslar added two each and Allison Lerch made 15 saves to lead No. 9 Moon (11-5) past No. 8 Hampton (7-10) in the Class 2A first round. The Tigers will face No. 1 Mars in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Quaker Valley 8, Plum 6 – Lucy Roig scored four goals and Alexa Westwood added a pair for No. 11 Quaker Valley (8-7) in a Class 2A first-round win. The Quakers will meet No. 3 Chartiers Valley in the quarterfinals Thursday. Carly Venanzi scored three goals for No. 6 Plum (12-4).
