High school roundup for Feb. 2, 2025: Rowan Carmichael guides Avonworth past Plum

Rowan Carmichael poured in 36 points to lift Class 4A No. 2 Avonworth to a 65-38 victory over Plum at the Win Palmer Classic on Sunday at Sewickley Academy.

Avonworth (16-3) jumped out to a 25-13 lead in the first quarter and pulled ahead 39-22 at halftime.

Will Beckner had 12 points and Max Grice added 11 for the Mustangs (8-10).

Quaker Valley 74, Aquinas Academy 54 — Harrison Kerley had 28 points, and Nic Cohen and Sam Chapman each had 15 as Quaker Valley (14-5) beat Aquinas Academy (16-4) at the Win Palmer Memorial Classic.

Woodland Hills 57, Burrell 51 (OT) — Calvin Barksdale had 15 points to lead Woodland Hills (9-11) to an overtime win over Burrell (6-14) at the Win Palmer Classic at Sewickley Academy. Tucker Bitar had 21 points for the Bucs, who were outscored 9-3 in overtime.

Girls basketball

Avonworth 39, Aliquippa 29 — Greta O’Brien had 14 points and Sydney Savatt added 10 as Avonworth (10-7) beat Aliquippa (13-4) at the Win Palmer Memorial Classic.

Carla Brown had 14 points, and Aunesty Johnson scored 12 for Aliquippa.

Quaker Valley 48, Lincoln Park 35 — Mimi Thiero had 25 points and Keira Watson added 10 to lift Quaker Valley (11-8) to a win over Lincoln Park (4-15) at the Win Palmer Memorial Classic.
