Brady McGuire hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh as Shaler scored all of its runs in the final three innings in a 5-2 victory over Moon on Saturday, splitting a Section 3-5A two-game series.

Brady Alexander and Luke Jarzynka each singled and doubled for the Titans (5-1, 1-1). Coleman Fletcher hit a two-run homer for the Tigers (1-2, 1-1).

Avonworth 16, Mohawk 5 – Ben Barnes went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs to lead Avonworth (4-3) to a five-inning nonsection win. John Dolan went 3 for 3 and had two RBIs for Avonworth, which scored nine runs in the first. Jay Wrona went 3 for 3 and scored twice for Mohawk (5-1).

Central Valley 12, Blackhawk 3 – Will Ciucci went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs to lead Central Valley (2-3, 1-0) to a Section 1-4A win. Daniel McIntosh singled, doubled and drove in a pair for the Warriors. Owen Keister had two hits and two RBIs for Blackhawk (0-2, 0-1).

Eden Christian 11, Carlynton 1; Eden Christian 16, Carlynton 4 – Eden Christian (5-1, 4-0) scored 27 runs in a Section 3-A doubleheader sweep of Carlynton (4-4, 2-2). In the first game, Caleb Emswiler went 3 for 4 with six RBIs and picked up the win for Eden Christian. Aidyn Helsley added three RBIs. In the second game, Emswiler drove in four runs while Brady Hull had three RBIs.

Fox Chapel 8, Penn Hills 3; Fox Chapel 14, Penn Hills 0 – Kris Bandurski had two hits and two RBIs as Fox Chapel (4-2, 3-1) won the first game of a Section 1-5A doubleheader against Penn Hills (0-4, 0-2). In the second game, Antonio LeDonne had two hits and three RBIs in Fox Chapel’s five-inning win.

Freedom 6, South Side 4 – In Section 2-2A, Colton Blank went 3 for 4 and drove in a run Freedom’s win. Anthony Taddeo scored twice for Freedom (3-3, 1-1) while Carter Wilson hit a solo home run for South Side (1-3, 0-3).

Franklin Regional 4, Gateway 3; Franklin Regional 21, Gateway 0 – Cole Brinker tripled and drove in two runs as Franklin Regional (6-3, 4-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Gateway (0-6, 0-2) in the first game of a Section 1-5A doubleheader. Taili Thompson went 2 for 3 and scored a run for Gateway, which scored all of its runs in the top of the sixth.

The Panthers dominated the second game. Brady Yarabinetz singled, doubled and drove in three and Darren DeRiggi went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs. Max Bernadowski gave up two hits and fanned eight in four scoreless innings.

Greensburg Salem 7, Southmoreland 6; Greensburg Salem 13, Southmoreland 2 – Tyler Martin hit a walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning following Peyton Chismar’s game-tying two-run single in the seventh as Greensburg Salem (2-2, 2-1) defeated Southmoreland (0-6, 0-4) in the first game of a Section 4-3A doubleheader. Martin was 4 for 5 with two RBIs while Chismar drove in three. Kadin Keefer went 2 for 4 for Southmoreland.

Ayden Crissman threw a six-inning, two-hit complete game for the Golden Lions in the second game. Chismar went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Nick Heinnickel tripled and plated three. Blake Forsythe singled and drove in a run for the Scotties.

Hopewell 5, Beaver 4 – Kingston Krotec singled and scored twice and Ben McDonald threw 2 ⅔ scoreless innings to lead Hopewell (4-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-4A win. Ty Butler doubled and homered for Beaver (4-3, 0-1).

Mt. Pleasant 14, McGuffey 2 – Brady Poole had three hits and three RBIs as Mt. Pleasant (3-3, 1-0) beat McGuffey (2-2, 2-1) in a five-inning Section 4-3A contest. C.J. Nestor added a double and three RBIs while teammate Cole Chatfield had three hits and drove in two runs.

North Hills 8, New Castle 6; North Hills 10, New Castle 2 – North Hills (4-1, 2-0) swept a Section 3-5A doubleheader from New Castle (0-6, 0-2). In the first game, Logan Hunt singled, doubled and drove in three runs and Jackson Giemont had a single, triple and two RBIs for North Hills. JT Warren doubled and homered for New Castle.

In the second game, Austin Hagerman singled, tripled and drove in two runs and Jake Pollaro had a single, double and two RBIs for North Hills. Damarian Young had two hits and an RBI for New Castle.

OLSH 6, New Brighton 4 – Gino Williams and Sean Hudac had two hits and two RBIs each as OLSH (3-3, 2-0) beat New Brighton (2-2, 0-2) in Section 2-2A. Jaleb Bailey drove in two runs for New Brighton.

Penn-Trafford 10, Armstrong 2 – In Section 1-5A, Brayden Stone hit three doubles and Rob Andrews picked up the win as Penn-Trafford (5-1, 3-1) defeated Armstrong (1-4, 0-4).

Seton LaSalle 17, Aliquippa 0 – Mark Weber threw a three-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts and Gio LoNero homered twice to lead Seton LaSalle (3-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Aliquippa (0-1, 0-1). Mike Todd went 2 for 2 with three runs scored and Josh Burkholder was 2 for 2 with three RBIs for the Rebels.

Union 5, Shenango 4 – Landon Eckert had two hits and two RBIs and Dom Cucitrone singled and drove in a run to lead Union (3-0) to a nonsection win. Sam Patton singled, walked twice and drove in two runs for Shenango (3-2).

Softball

Belle Vernon 12, Laurel Highlands 2 – Abby Fabin doubled twice and drove in two runs and Gracie Sokol went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead Belle Vernon (6-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Lily Crawford picked up the win. Niaha Dillard homered and drove in a pair for Laurel Highlands (0-3, 0-2).

North Hills 12, Plum 2 – In five innings, Makenzie Roskwitalski and Savannah Bodnar each homered and drove in three runs as North Hills (4-1, 1-0) won a Section 1-5A matchup. Abigail Sutton also homered for North Hills and had two RBIs and picked up the win on the mound. Brooke Bernosky picked up two RBIs for Plum (3-2, 0-1).

Seneca Valley 3, Norwin 0 – Lexie Hames struck out 20 in a complete game one-hitter to lead Seneca Valley to the Section 1-6A win against Norwin. Hames had a no-hitter until Norwin’s Kendall Dudley broke it up with a single with two outs in the seventh inning. Hames also homered. Norwin’s Abbie Telli struck out eight in the four-hit complete-game loss.

Shaler 9, Fox Chapel 0 – Bria Bosijevac struck out 14 as she pitched a complete-game one-hitter while going 2 for 2 at the plate in Shaler’s Section 1-5A win over Fox Chapel (1-3, 0-1). Haley Machajewski and Alyssa Schaffold each went 3 for 3 for Shaler (4-0, 1-0).

South Fayette13, New Castle 5 – Maddie Cavenaugh homered twice and had three RBIs to lead South Fayette (3-0, 1-0) to the Section 3-5A win against New Castle (1-1, 0-1). Cam Valentino went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs for South Fayette and teammate Emma Earley added a solo home run.

South Park 2, Keystone Oaks 0 – In Section 4-3A, South Park’s Sydney Sekely struck out 13 in a three-hit complete-game shutout over Keystone Oaks (2-2, 0-1). Mady Wilder and Reese Katich each drove in runs in the sixth inning for South Park (4-1, 1-0).

Track

South Hills Classic – Upper St. Clair dominated the girls sprints at the annual Baldwin meet with Sadie Tomczak sweeping the 100 and 200 and the Panthers taking first in the 400 relay.

Winchester Thurston girls won four events. Charlotte Brake-Hoffman won the 400 and the Bears were first in the 3,200 relay. DaShae Cochran won the long jump and Alexis Bansah the triple jump.

Sophomore Monroe Law, who transferred to Winchester Thurston from Franklin Regional, was second in the 100, 200 and long jump.

Hempfield athletes won three girls events with Madison Altman taking the high jump, Grace Iwig the high jump and Katherine Dolinski the shot put.

Other WPIAL winners were Riverside’s Lexi Fluharty in the 3,200 and Pine-Richland’s Nadia Constantakis in the pole vault.

On the boys side, Burgettstown’s Zack Schrockman, Baldwin’s Marcus Toto and Hempfield’s Peyton Murray were double winners.

Schrockman won the 400 and high jump, Toto the long and triple jump and Murray the shot put and discus.

Pine-Richland’s Jake Jones and the Rams 400 relay teams also won.

Other WPIAL winners were DeJuan Croumbles of Neighborhood Academy in the 100, East Allegheny’s Gabriel Bucar in the 800, North Hills’ Kayden Lightner in the 1,600, West Mifflin’s Austin Kurta in the 110 hurdles and the Baldwin 1,600 relay team.
