Sewickley Academy’s softball team was assigned the No. 4 seed for the WPIAL Class A playoffs.
The top three seeds went Union, Carmichaels and West Greene.
“We are very excited and honored to have earned the four seed,” Sewickley coach Bob Sirko said. “I am happy the girls have been recognized for their efforts this season. There are a lot of great teams in the tournament, and there are no easy games, so we will have to play our best softball of the year to advance.”
The Panthers entered the postseason as the second-best offensive team in Class A, averaging 9.6 runs per game and topped only by Union (12 rpg).
Sewickley finished the regular season with a .386 team batting average led by the terrific trio of senior CF Marie Bigi (.595), senior 3B Quincy Sirko (.535) and freshman C Gabby Edmunds (.512).

Other team leaders statistically included Sirko (24 runs), Edmunds (11 doubles, 22 RBIs) and Chrichton (14 walks, 19 stolen bases).
Sirko also finished with an .814 slugging percentage, .583 OBP, 23 hits, 20 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.
