It was a repeat performance for Hampton, and for the 2nd straight season, the Talbots are the WPIAL Boys Class-AA champions. Hampton scored 3 first half goals and used a stifling defense to hold the 14th seeded Leopards at bay for their 20th consecutive win.
It didn't take the top seeded Talbots long to score. Byran Margaria led a rush up the left wing, before pushing the ball to Jonathan Mercier, who found Chris Delposen on a perfect crossing pass. Delposen finished the play, giving Hampton a 1-0 lead just 3-minutes in.
Delposen would strike again in the 17th minute, this time converting his own rebound off of a save by Belle Vernon keeper Garrett McLaughlin.
Hampton would make it 3-0 in the 31st minute off of a corner kick. Mercier's kick from the right side of the pitch was perfect, as Stephen Mottola headed the feed home, and the Talbots never looked back.
Neither team scored in the 2nd half, and Hampton goalkeeper Tyler Miller stopped all 5 shots he faced for the clean sheet.
This was the third time in three consecutive post-season meetings that the Talbots beat the Leopards. Hampton defeated Belle Vernon in both the WPIAL Semi-Finals and PIAA Quarterfinals in 2010.
Hampton (20-1-0), who was playing in their 3rd consecutive championship match, will now look to defend their PIAA crown as well. Belle Vernon (19-3-0) will also move on to the PIAA playoffs along with South Park as the WPIAL's three Class-AA representatives.
