It will be an all-Greensburg pairing at the Pure Insurance Championship this week at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Izzy Aigner, a senior at Greensburg Central Catholic, will play with Hempfield graduate and fan favorite Rocco Mediate in the 54-hole PGA Tour Champions event that features a side pro-junior competition for the country’s top high school players.
The tournament, which partners with The First Tee junior program, will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course on the Monterey Peninsula in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Aigner, who is thrilled for the opportunity to play one of the world’s top courses with PGA legends, went through a long qualifying process, which included several essays. A panel selected 80 low-handicap junior players, ages 14-18, to play in the NBC-televised tournament.
The top 24 two-player teams after 36 holes make the cut for Sunday’s final round. The format is best ball.
Aigner had to opt out of WPIAL sectional qualifying to play in the tournament. She will return to join the eight-time defending WPIAL Class 2A champion Centurions for the team postseason.
Aigner plays Spyglass on Friday and Pebble Beach on Saturday.
