Greensburg Central Catholic won their first WPIAL Championship in school history in impressive fashion, beating #3 Bishop Canevin 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Chartiers Valley High School.
The Centurions, who were the top seed in the Class A playoffs and undefeated in section play, beat the Crusaders 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.
Offensively, GCC was led by Winthrop recruit Shannon Hurley, who had 17 kills, including seven in the final game.
The Centurions also got solid contributions from Leah Bisigani and Emma Dickson at the net, as well as tremendous defensive play by Libero Alexa Kacin.
The trip to the finals was the third for 6th year Head Coach Heather Meyers, but her first time winning.
Bishop Canevin got great efforts all around, but defensive specialist Katie Oliverio was terrific for the Crusaders, who advance to the PIAA playoffs with GCC and West Shamokin, who lost to GCC in the semifinals.
But the afternoon belonged to the Centurions, who ran the season as the unanimous #1 seed in Class A.
