Penn-Trafford wrestling coach Rich Ginther informed his team at the end-of-season banquet Sunday that he is not returning as coach next year.

Ginther submitted his resignation to the school last week.

He has been coaching for more than 20 years, the past 12 at Penn-Trafford. He previously coached at Norwin and was an assistant at Yough.

“It was time,” Ginther said. “The plan was to see Brett (his son) and Nick Coy finish their careers. It’s time to be a dad, and I want to watch my daughter the next two seasons play softball at Pitt-Johnstown.

“I’m leaving the program in good shape. We’re starting to get the numbers back up, and this should be an attractive job.”

Cam Coy won three state titles under Ginther, and he coached Shane Young to two titles.

“I’ve had a lot of fun,” Ginther said. “The kids are great. While I may not be the head coach, I’ll be around to help out.”

Penn-Trafford reached the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs six times and made finals twice under Ginther and the semifinals three times. The Warriors lost to Hempfield and Connellsville in the finals.
